We are in Los Angeles County, so we were able to adopt very quickly through DCFS. We were finished with our home study in Feb of last year and matched about 2 1/2 months later with our son. He was 4 1/2 months old when he was placed with us. We are finalizing day after tomorrow. The process was great for us, very few bumps along the way. If you end up waiting for a long time, you should look into the nearest big city's equivalent of CPS or DCFS. They have alot of kids in foster care whose parental rights have already been terminated or are about to be terminated and are eligible for adoption.

Social Services
We are working with a social service agency that does foster care and infant adoption. We said we'd be open to a child from either program but our agency has had so much turnover with personnel. It's hard to know what is going on from week to week. When we first signed on, they rushed our homestudy very quickly but since then they have told people to do their own "marketing." We are one of two families waiting who said race wasn't an issue for us. We tried to have them share our profile with other agencies in larger cities but they said they wanted us to work with them exclusively for a year. That's fine. But it's hard to wait!

timeframe
Hi,
we put our profiles etc in the mail Oct 8, 2004 to an agency in GA. They said expect 6-18 months for matching but, there were no guarantees... Dec 8, 2004 we got a call about our AA daughter born that morning, and we had her in our arms Dec 10, 2004. I really couldn't have come up with a better set of events. Even tho we were an agency pick, we have contact with our wonderful B-Mom thru e-mail and agency, someday to be opened. The only thing I might change would be starting out with an open adoption from the beginning. If we wanted this baby we "had" to meet BirthMom, not what we wanted, but we wanted the baby more! Oh how we would have missed out on knowing one of the most cherished people in our lives. Honestly, I thought I wanted baby all to "myself & DH" but in real life I am absolutely thrilled to know DD's other Mom will be a part of her life!! Guess I got off on a tangent there, sorry, BUT, I want to share our BirthMom experience whenever I can, I just feel sooo fortunate I didn't get what I thought I wanted!! Good Luck! max

re matched
we finished our homestudy in feb, were matched before it was typed (our profile had been submitted to a pbm), we had a little girl for 3 weeks, pbmom changed mind, we had another baby the very next day! we LOVE our agency! even though we had an emotional roller coaster of a ride they came through for us in the end! we are in the process of adopting again!
