AA child? COME IN HERE!-hair
I was looking threw some AA hair threads..they're either old or so off topic
! This thread was made to discuss styles, conditioners/shapoos, techinques and my favorite share 'hair doo' pictures(have a ton and will post a lot so watch out lol!!) Its also a thread for CC who have adopted AA as we can share how we learn to braid(cornrow, box braids,...) and how we are either good, great or still bringing our kids to the salon. Have fun!!lol Anyways I posted a pic of some of my latest style on my youngest.. pretty simple...(changing her style tonight has she had it in for a bit longer than she bargained for lol.(she likes them in and then a new style within the week ) |

Well here goes. I finally put beads in my daughter's hair (280 of them). This is my favorite style for Deborah, cornrows going into loose braids in the back so that we can wear pigtails, ponytails, half ponytails, or just down.

AA Hair
Well timed thread, this has been a hot topic here lately.
Wow! - have just started getting bands into 8 mo old dd's hair, I cant' imagine putting in almost 300 beads!!! Can someone with "3 left thumbs" learn this, or will we be salon bound? My biggest challenge right now is how to get the parts straight, they're kinda close, but.... We currently have have 6 bands in her hair, could probably use more but her tolerance is understandable limited. It is improvement tho, at 3 months if I did anything involving her hair/head it was major trauma. I will admit being ignorant to the fact that the beads/braids etc are not just a fashion issue. I thought I had at least a couple years to learn this I DO love every minute of it tho! thanks

Great hairstyles! I have't been able to do anything w/ Hannah's hair yet. At 6 months I don't have a way to distract her and she just screams at me.

Thanks Andy
It takes me about 3 hours to put in 56 braids. Last month I put in 80 braids and it was ridiculous. I won't be doing that again. It's not putting them in, it's getting them back out!!!! It also depends on how long you leave them in. I try to go as long as 4 weeks but then the braids will start to lock. And we went swimming a lot this summer so then the style will fuzz and not look so nice and I will redo the cornrows so that it looks neater.I learned how to do Deborah's hair by reading books and I learned how to do the beads by reading a thread here on this forum! I can't remember which one it was now. This was my first attempt at real pony beads, not snap ons. I wouldn't worry about the parts being perfect. I stopped doing the box braids on Deborah's hair and started doing what I call the cobblestone look because it's easier.

OK this is intimidating
I have to say you guys are AMAZING. I have the books and I REFUSE to let this opportunity go by but this just intimidates the heck out of me. Addy at 10 months still has really fine hair and not too much of it so there isn't enough to do anything with yet. I am using "Motions" shampoo from Target and that seems to keep her hair pretty soft. How did you guys learn?? There is an AA salon close by and I've heard that they will teach people but with 5 kids, I have no clue where I would find the time. How did you get where you are now with those beautiful hairstyles - you're girls must feel so proud and pretty Martha |

As a woman who feared having a daughter because of hair, I have to admit that I absolutely love styling my daughters hair! I love the time we spend together, and the way she looks at herself in the mirror afterwards!
You can learn to braid and cornrow! It just takes practice and patience. The hardest part for me is coming up with different styles and getting the parts how I want them. Can anyone tell me how to thread the beads on the braid. I'm using a bobby pin, but it it difficult with the smaller beads. |
