This is to the mom's of biracial baby's.
We just been placed with beautiful biracial baby boy. I have heard it could take a while for him to "get his color". How old was your baby when their color started to change?
Did I mention he is the most beautiful, sweet, adorable baby in the whole world . He is a dream come true.

All AA's babies color differs from one to the next. My son is AA and was very light when he was born. He is now very brown and just as gorgeous. Sometimes babies are born dark, sometimes babies are born light and get darker and sometimes they stay the color they are. It just depends.

Ditto on what Bethany said...when DS, who is full AA, was born he had very light complexion and looked biracial. He is now a beautiful shade of brown.

All of your children are adorable in their own way! I love this thread and visit it often. Our little man loves to see the "cute babies" and so do I!

We are hoping to finalize the adoption of our 2 year old soon. Watch out on that day because I'm going to fill this post with my gorgeous baby boy to his toddler age.

Sydney is adorable. I love my little man to pieces, and a Mommy/son relationship is awesome, but I can't WAIT for a little girl to put bows in her hair...what a sweetie!

Part of the fun!

It is always fun to see a baby's features develop, isn't it? My black/white biracial son was born light colored, but you could always tell from his features that he had African blood in there. He became definitely darker than average for kids with blond blue eyed birth moms. His hair, however, was a bit of a surprise. He was mostly bald for his first year. When it did grow, it was just barely wavy and really more like Native American hair. From about age three until he went through puberty, it was totally straight, except for a little wave in the corners. After that, it changed texture so that it wasn't just straight anymore, but not really curly, either. Now, we are watching his daughter, whose mom is white, for signs that she has some African ancestry. Her eyes have gone from blue to brown, and she tans very easily, but she doesn't even have a mongolian spot! Like her dad, she has very little hair, at nine months, so we are still waiting to see what that will be like!

My other biracial child, who is black/Filipino, was born looking Asian or Hispanic, with pink skin and a head full of straight black hair and looked much more like her birth mom for a long time. Now that she is almost 13, however, she is starting to look more like her black birth father. My "full" black son also was much lighter as a newborn than he eventually got.

Have a great time with your little one! He'll be grown up before you know it!

Noelani

You are all right, their "color" can take away. Our DD #3 is biracial, no one could really tell she was biracial until her hair came in curlier at 18months old. Even then she had loose curls. At about 2 you could probably tell but because of her hair not skin color.

DD#4 is full AA. She was born looking like an Eskimo. By the time she was a couple weeks old she already was very dark.

DS#5 is also full AA. He was very light skin but had black features. He is actually LIGHTER than our Biracial daughter!

It's all in the genes. My cousin has 4 children with the same man, he is AA she is very light Caucasian. All 4 kids have different texture hair & skin tones!! Same thing with a friend of our who has 5 children, all different shades all different skin tones.

DS is AA/CC biracial and is only 6 months old, but his color has changed quite a bit already. Sometimes it seems he changes on a day-to-day basis!

One of my (AA) friends said to look at his nail beds and that would be what his skin color would end up being. Not sure that's any more than an old wives' tale but....

A funny story - I have a friend who is biracial, he looks AA now but when he was born he was so light the hospital thought they had mixed up babies in the nursery because his mom is very dark AA - they didn't think her son could be so light! Apparently there was a big hubbub and they didn't want to give him to his mom! (That was 25 years ago, BTW)

Anyhow, the point is - it's hard to tell how skin color is going to change for anyone but I think especially for biracial kiddos.

Let's bring this back to the top!

This Summer we have had birth families overload!! LOL

Our DS BBrother who is 2 1/2 and his BSister who is 14 1/2 have been here for several weeks already. Last week I went to IN and picked up our DD#3 2 BBrothers who are 10 & 5 1/2. SO we have had a total of 9 kids here!!!

It's been crazy but AWESOME at the same time! Having open adoptions has been the BEST thing we could have ever done!! It's so awesome how our kids can be with their BSibs so much!

Here are a few of the pictures so far.
