Hi everyone
I just had to post some tips today on hair care. I, as many of you had to learn proper hair care on my own and I did this by asking black friends their opinions, asking hair dressers their thoughts and just trying about everything on the market that I could think of. My girls have georgious hair-they are mixed race children with partial cc hair and partial AA hair-seriously, their hair is a combo-sometimes a crazy combo of both types of hair but I managed it well with the products I'm going to list below. Their hair is always looking bright, shiny and nice. The first key is to keeping their hair moisturized! The second key is to put it up in a pony in the evening before bed so in the morning you wont have a rats nest to comb though and can just take it out of the pony, spray it, condition it and style it to run out the door when your having a busy day. Third key is to have a spray bottle filled with water handy-always Here are the products I use. Pink Conditioner(walmart product) I use this after shampooing I leave it in or just rince it a bit. It makes hair soft and easy to comb though. S curl No drip Activatior/Moisturizer (beauty supply house) This comes in a spray-I use it every day so that their hair is shiny and easy to style-it cuts down frizz and makes hair smooth and silky. BB super grow (beauty supply house) this is a hair grease/oil that can be used on hair and scalp, as well as dry areas on the skin such as elbows and knees. It smells like coconut to and we love it. I contition my daughters hair with this oil at least once a week. One last thing-please remember to drop in a bit of baby oil in the bath too-and this will prevent ashy skin on your babies. Keep them shiny and happy and give them lots of love. As white parents raising mixed race children we need to learn all we can about each culture so that our children will have the best childhood and know how much we care. Good LUck to all ![]() |

Para-thanks for the thread. I feel like I am constantly trying something new. I use Pink Conditioner also, it's great, not too heavy. I am absolutely loving "Shampure" by Aveda. It's a conditioning shampoo. It's amazing...I've tried everything and this seems to work great on my daughters hair.

Hi! Is the pink conditioner the name brand of the product? I bought a children's hair product at WalMart by Dark & Lovely I can't remember the name but it's a moisturising oil. The only thing that I don't like about it is that is can sometimes make her hair look oily. My daughter is AA/Hispanic. Her hair is very soft and curly. It's really curly on the back & side & just wavy, almost staight, on the top!!
I love the natural curl! I usually just comb her hair to the side & put a couple of clips in & it looks so cute or I'll put a pony tail on top & she has the whole "water fountain" look! Her skin is not ashy so I can get away with using Johnson & Johnson baby lotion! I just LOVE the way it smells!! Thank you for the thread! I too am always looking to see what products people recommend! Maricela |

Dark & Lovely is a different brand. The Pink conditioner is in a pink bottle and is called "Luster's Pink - RevitaLEX Conditioner". It is not a oil, it's a conditioner you can use after shampooing. You can either rinse it out or leave a small amount in her hair or both. It smells great.
My daughters hair isn't really dry either (just very curly) and I've found many products for aa hair leaves my daughters hair very oily also. The Aveda shampoo is great and I use Infusium (aveda and infusium were highly recommended by my hair dresser) and/or the pink conditioner after I wash her hair. For her skin I use Cetaphil (our whole family uses this...recommended by our dermatologist as the best lotion to use). Her skin is what I would consider average dryness. Cetaphil also has a cream which I use on my son...his skin tends to be more dry. I love Johnson & Johnson, unfortunately 2 of my 3 darlings have sensitive skin and I can't use it. Maricela, how old is your daughter?-stacy |

Hi Stacy, My daughter is 14 months old. I'm going to have to go out & look for the pink conditioner. Do you find that it's OK to use on children's hair. My daughter has always had brown w/redish blond highlights but I find that it's getting lighter. I'm not sure if it's the products I'm using on her hair or if it's her actual color. Can any of these products actually change their hair color?
I'm going to try aveda. I've read alot of good things about it. Maybe that will help her hair out. I tried just leaving her hair w/out using any product in her hair & it went WILD! I just bought some Shea Butter Lotion for her skin & I loved it! It smells good too! Thanks for all the input! I'll let you know how it works out! Maricela ![]() |

Maricela- I feel the pink conditioner is safe for children. It definately does not have that "chemical" smell that most of the product I've tried do. My daughter will be 3, Aug. 6. It sounds like our daughter's hair is very similar. I know Trinity's hair changes color in the summer because we spend a lot of time outside. I don't know if certain shampoo products can change their color. I can't imagine that they would, but who knows. chat with you soon, stacy

Hi,
This is my first post here, but since hair care is such a huge issue at my house I just had to weigh in. My biracial daughter is six months old and I think I've already been through twenty hair care products trying to find the right balance for her kind of curly, kind of straight, kind of dry, kind of oily and yet absolutely gorgeous hair. The new Pantene line for women of color (it's called Relaxed and Natural) was just recommended to me. I hear it's wonderful. Also the Paul Mitchell Detangler is supposed to be great. I'm trying them all out this week -- and now I guess I'll be getting some pink conditioner as well! |

jms222- Be careful when you use products that are meant for full aa hair. Biracial hair is very different and the chemicals used in some products could damage her hair. I tried the new Pantene line on my daughter's hair (she's aa/cc) and her hair began to break off at the roots. I don't know for sure if it was the Pantene product but this has never happened before or since I stopped using the product. Try to stick with natural remedies especially since you daughter is so young. Proper conditioning is key for her hair. Good luck!
