A rather unusual situation
Hello,
My name is Sedime. I am a white woman married to a Native American man, and we live in Arizona. We have one white child (mine by birth, who was born before DH and I were wed) who is 7. Due to fertility issues, we cannot have a child of our own. So we are starting to gently feel out the idea of adopting a Native infant, but information on this sort of adoption I incredibly hard to find. We would very much appreciate hearing of any links, groups, resources, etc. Thank you! |

Native American adoption
While we have not adopted a Native American child, the agency we used for the adoption of our daughter has several available "sitautions" involving children of Native American heritage. My understanding is that when an adoptive parent is not Native American or of that child's ancestral tribe, the tribe elders are required to approve the adoption.
Check out American Adoptions' Website (www.americanadoptions.com) to see the listing of birthmothers who are awaiting a match. They may also have information on their Website about Native American adoption and what is involved. Try also www.adoption.com. We highly recommend American Adoptions. We were very impressed with their professionalism and level of care. They were true to their word and their fee quote. Best of luck to you! Tina |
