Infant hair care?
I was wondering if anyone had any advice about caring for our DD's hair. She is biracial (white/black), and 3 months old. She still has that straight-wavy baby hair, but I've noticed that it tends to get very dry, especially at her occiput. It is likely because she head rubs against the crib sheet when she sleeps. We wash her hair with baby shampoo once every few days.
I've read about different products like Carol's Daughter and Miss Jessie's (and my 2 year old niece, who is black, uses the latter), but my impression is that these are for older kids. What would you use (if anything) on an infant's hair that hasn't started to change yet? Thanks!

I think Carol's Daughter is okay for the little ones as most of it is natural and organic. I use a daily spritz of water, olive oil and lavendar oil on my kiddo's hair and it keeps it really beautiful....the trick is getting a nice mist-like sprayer so that if covers all of the head. 1/4 oil to 3/4 water.

I agree that the more natural, the better. I didn't do this when our three were itty-bits....but when our girls were itty-bits, I used Biosilk by Farouk. It's pricey, I agree.....but took such a tiny-and I mean---tiny amount once I spritzed the hair with warm water in the mornings.
It can be hard to find the 'natural' stuff...because even if the label states, 'natural'....it's still full of products that aren't, KWIM? Still, the less of anything, the better...and I think the idea musemoon gave of the different oils, would be good as long as you only use such a tiny bit---and I suspect the smell is wonderful!!!! (Too much oil, from anything, clogs the pores (as you probably already know. ) )Sincerely, Linny |

Fadzi:
When DD was teeny tiny we just washed her hair with a moisturizing shampoo (drug store brand, nothing special) and brushed it with a very soft brush we got from the hospital. Around four months or so all her baby hair fell out and her more grown-up hair came in (much curlier and much drier). BTW -- DD is full AA. We then started used shea butter to condition her hair daily (got it in small jars from the health food store) -- as she got older and her hair got longer this stopped working well so we switched to Carol's Daughter products (first black vanilla (now not enough moisture) then jojoba oil (now good for daily spritz) and the hair milk (for after washing). We also use Aveda Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner about once a week and it seems to be working. So as you can see -- the process involves trial and error -- and something that works at one time may stop working as time goes on and their hair texture changes. Good luck with your new little one!
