Swimming Lessons and Hair

I am sure I have read another thread on this, but I searched and can't find it.

My daughter and son (both black) will be starting swimming lessons next week. My son's hair is short, so I am not too concerned about him. I can handle that.

But my daughter's hair is, of course, longer and harder to keep moisturized. Any tips on what I should do to make sure it doesn't get fried by the pool water? Should I just use a swimming cap? Any advice would be nice. I could muddle through, but experience is always better. Please share.

Thanks!

Hi,
You might be interested in joining the Adoption Hair & Skin Care Yahoo! group. It is a wealth of info like this.
I asked the same questions to that group a few weeks ago. It was suggested that I put in an easy to take out style (I did just plain box braids) and put conditioner on before swimming or have them go to swimming with wet hair. I guess if there is already something IN the braids they don't soak up as much pool water (like a sponge I guess.) Many of the families on there have their kids wear swim caps.

Hope this helps some!

Swimming

My friend's DDs are active in swimming lessons, so she keeps their hair cornrowed in small braids and they wear swim caps during lessons. Then afterward, take a small bit of chlorine-removing shampoo and apply between the braids. Most of all, rise thoroughly!!! Then, apply a natural or mineral oil-based braid sheen spray or cream.
