Adopting from the US if u live overseas?

I have a question.... does anyone know if you have to live in the US to adopt in the US.. the reason I ask is that my aunt who is 40 and her husband would LOVE to adopt a child but in Ireland where they live you are considered too old at 40 to adopt. I know that is not the case here in the US so I just thought I'd ask on this forum to see if she would some how be able to adopt over here. Currently she is thinking of International adoption so I thought the US is International to where she is... Is there any chance?

I know that it is possible - but not sure if there are restrictions for certain countries or anything. There was a program on Chronicle not too long ago about 2 couples - one from the Netherlands, can't remember the other one, but that adopted a child from the U.S. Both adoptions were domestic where the birthmother chose the couple - not through DSS.

Thanks Ktates,

I might start looking into how to go about it and surprise them with the info when I see them back in Ireland in a few weeks. Don't want to get their hopes up un-necessarily though fo course...
