Won't say the word
My son happily sits in the potty when I take him. But he refuses to say the word potty or pee pee or any other word for when he has to go to the bathroom. What can I do? I've even taught him the sign for potty, which he can sign, but he won't. He always signs or says the word, when he doesn't need to go. UGH!

Try announcing when you have to use the potty to model the behavior. You can also try coming up with a covert sign or gesture for using the potty, such as tugging at his ear or touching his nose, something that just the two of you would know. He may be embarrassed about letting everyone in the world know what he is about to do. When my little one was learning he hated announcing that he had use the bathroom when other people were around. Eventually he just started running off on his own and I would follow him.
