If I hear it one more time...
About a week ago I was explaining to my ds, Max, that when we use "mean words" it hurts other people's feelings. He and a friend had been arguing over a toy or something and I wanted him to know that it wasn't OK to say mean things when we are angry. Well....now I am hearing the phrase, " You hurt my feelings" about 200 times a day. When I don't make him Hot Chocolate for breakfast or let him have cookies for dinner.. it's " You hurt my feelings". When I ask him to run and go potty before we head out to run errands, it's " You hurt my feelings". The whole time I am bathing him, and getting him ready for bed it's " You hurt my feelings". I am going crazy...
The first couple of days I tried to explain that just because I wasn't doing what he wanted Mommy to do, doesn't mean I am hurting his feelings. But it didn't work and now I am just trying to ignore it. Advice, anyone? |

My four year old got stuck on 'no one likes me!' anytime someone did something he didn't like. He heard this from a cousin who's mother would then try and convince the child otherwise. Seemed to only feed into what the cousin was doing, so I went the other way when my son said it. I told him to 'get over it'. After about a week of not getting the response he desired, the statements stopped.
