How about putting up a gate? Would that work?

No, b/c I do the same!

We put one of those childproof thingies on the doorknob.

Keep in mind...DS has NEVER been any sort of escape artist nor a climber. In fact, he just recently went to a big boy bed b/c I insisted on it, NOT b/c he wanted out of it. He's NOT ONCE ever tried to get out of his crib!

I've had friends switch the doorknob and put a hook and eye latch on the door as well.

We still sleep with his monitor on, so we would hear anything.

Good luck!

Whew! That makes me feel better. I don't have a monitor which does worry me a bit, but then the other night (coincidently, the night I posted this!), she woke up wailing about 1 a.m. I heard her just fine and went in to cuddle her and put her back down.

She is an escape artist, so having the door closed and latched allows me the peace of mind that she is somewhat confined and not wandering all over the house!

I have thought about the gate thing except DD's bedroom is right next to ours and I know she would just scream and scream trying to get out. (And I'm a wimp and wouldn't be able to deal with it!). Now the funny thing is the other night I shut my door because we had the AC on (window unit) and that night she stayed in her bed....maybe she couldn't open our door?!! I think anything that works is a great solution!!!!!
