flat feet, maybe?

Hi Everyone,

Since our K began walking a few months ago, I have noticed that her feet seem flat. I have read that at this age (now 19 months old) that their arch does not yet show, and a pad of fat covers where the arch would be.

BUT, to me it looks like the bone on her inner part of the foot touches the floor, her feet seem to roll inward some when she walks, then yesterday it looked like her achilies tendon on the back of the foot curves somewhat when she walks, like since the foot might not be straight. Then tonight when she was running in the house, I noticed again how she her running doesn't seem quite right, and don't know if this could be due to her feet.

How do I know at this age if she could have flat feet? I do have flat feet, so maybe this is why I am looking so much at it, maybe too much? I asked the doctor last visit at 18 months, and he looked at how she walked to me, but she was wearing socks.

Should I go to her doctor again, or should I look for a pediatric podiatrist, if there is one?
The concern keeps coming back to me.

Bug's feet look like still at 21.5 months old. His running looking so painful. and I was concerned. I do think that your doctor should refer you to a specialist just to confirm if everything is OK- it can not hurt and will be a benefit to catch it early if there are issues.

love to you

If you are concerned, I would just get it checked for peace of mind. DS's feet still look flat, but he is a tip toe walker and runner. He has always tip toed and when he runs he looks so crazy, tip toeing out of control. We got it checked out (sometimes tip toeing can be short back tendons) and Doc said he is fine, it just him! I feel better knowing and can now just laugh rather than be concerned.

So yeah, it may very well be nothing, but for peace of mind, make an appointment with a ped or specialist and have it checked.

I did go today--he said K is a little flat footed on the left, okay looks on the right. Will look again at 2 year checkup. Said in the next year or two can still grow well. Walking fine. Said for her she needs good arch support in her shoes, said hers are good.

Thanks--like you said, "Peace of mind!"

But my husband said I could have paid him (DH) the $30 and he would have told me the same thing.
