Toddler TV

Well, I don't know about you all but I feel as if I have become an armchair TV critic of DS' shows. Honestly, some leave me scratching my head thinking, do kids really like this? Do adults think kids like this?

So, on a lighter note, feel free to discuss your current faves/non-faves (and as most of you have 2-3 yo's, it changes every week, at least for us).

Mine:
*Max & Ruby-Ruby has to be THE dumbest animal on this planet...she is always losing Max, etc. I literally have to leave the room when this is on.

*Miss Spider's Sunny Patch-cute show and about adoption too but does anyone else get CREEPED OUT by Spiderus? WTH? And his WIFE? She looks like Satan!

*Charlie & Lola-This I could watch ALL day. They are so darn cute with their accents and all.

*Caillou-God help me, the whining. Like nails on a chalkboard!

We are praying for good weather soon...so we aren't cooped up inside watching these shows!

I love Little Einsteins, Curious George, Dan Zanes short videos, Handy Manny, and most Sesame Street.

I hate, but he loves:
Mr. Rogers. "Watch Rogers again!"
Winnie the Pooh and Friends or whatever it's called
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

I am thankful that he's gotten over the constant "Thomas the Tank Engine" shows, though he still loves his trains. I wish he would get over Harry Potter, which he wants to watch (minus the "scary parts") every night. I love those, too, but enough is enough.

I have so far been successful in keeping him sequestered from Barney, Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Wiggles, Caillou, and Sponge Bob. I told the nanny I would fire her if she ever let him watch Barney. (And I'm not really kidding about that.)

Not only does DD love Caillou. She wants to have a Caillou themed party for her bday. I asked her (she does have a good sense of humor, but didn't quite get my sarcasm!): "Is the theme to shave the childrens' heads and ask them to run around and WHINE all during the party?" OMG, and the parents on Caillou!!!! Talk about lack of discipline! Of course, Caillou "gets" the message at the end, but all DD gets is the whining and demanding!!!

DD just asked for her first Wiggles video. I don't even know where she saw it first (prob at SIL's who does daycare). She also really likes Dora. Thankfully, the Barney phase has passed (I can send you the DBDs - - as DD says-- HBV! hahahh!)

I'm looking forward to the warmer weather as well. She was a lunatic today.

*hiding head*
We actually WENT to the Wiggles concert over a year ago. I didn't mind them...I loved a lot of their songs. The newer versions now of the shows on PD really stink though! I do also think it's time for them to quietly fade into the woodwork.

HBV, our lil man kinda weaned himself off Thomas too, although he does still play with his train table a lot.

He has never liked Barney-THANK GOD. He is though, really into Clifford...this week. It literally does change week to week!

LOL SpongeBob, I joke to DH that it should actually be called "SpongeBob NICK pants" b/c that's all Nick ever plays! I refuse to watch it.

Speaking of Nick, not a fan, too many commercials! I love how PD and Noggin don't have them, although Noggin was bought by Nick, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Now there aren't as cute of "fillers" in between shows.

EGADS, can you tell we've been cooped up and are watching too much tv?

We got rid of a bunch of our cable stuff because we never watched it, so all H gets are the kid shows on PBS and Disney.

Oh, I forgot one of his other shows he likes: PLANET EARTH, the one w/ Richard Attenborough. They reran it on Discovery Channel a while back and we TIVO'd it.

Now THAT is a cool show.

*PS: Loveajax, if you send me Barney DVDs I swear I will go find the BIGGEST, WHINIEST most BATTERY SUCKING Caillou thing I can and send it straight to J for her birthday.

I can not stand Calliou. Thank goodness neither does Kelcee.

She likes: Angelina Ballerina, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Pooh and Friends, and lately she is into Strawberry Shortcake.

I never watched cartoons growing up so it wouldn't matter what she picked I can't stand any of them.

She also really Kipper the Dog.

Denise, DD keeps asking to see Strawberry Shortcake...what channel is that on? We mostly do the PBS Sprout here. (Kipper is actually kind of cute, with his accent and all!).

HBV, HA! Don't you dare!

Aha! I will have to try to find some. I actually like all the different girls (from the books). It reminds me a bit of how I was obsessed with Holly Hobby and her gang as a kid!

What about BooBah?! My daughter got hooked on it at 19 mos of age after one viewing. and my husband and I thought Baby Einstein was like Kiddy crack, Boobah became the new big obsession at our house.

Since then it's Barney, Little Bill (i think that is what it is called) and of course Dora and Elmo. She also LOVES Shrek and recently has been thrilled to watch 2 different Potty videos we checked out from the library. (It's Potty Time is one of the titles)

Shows I try my best to make sure we avoid :
  • Wiggles -- HATE THEM!
  • BooBah -- I don't get it
  • Teletubbies --Have no clue why she likes this!
  • Max & Ruby!!! -- Ruby should listen to Max!
Shows we DVR and have available for viewing so we can help avoid ones Mom doesn't like:
  • Franklin
  • Little Bear
  • Dora
  • Diego
Other shows that are ok : Little Bill
And I actually can tolerate Barney. (but don't DVR)

Elmo was a HUGE favorite of DD's when she was younger and My Mom has always liked Elmo. I on the other hand HATE the "third person" talking Elmo. So I am thankful that those days are behind us.

But my favorite fun days are days the TV is never turned on!

Sesame Street is a huge fave in our house! I find myself singing along w/ the songs that are still on from when I was little- Sesame Street helped me w/ numbers and letters so it's one that I can approve of 110%!!

Just recently Bob the Builder has become a hit-- I just sing "bob the builder, can we fix it? Bob the builder yes we can!!" and his head starts bobbing up and down like he's at a concert! He is so stinkin' cute!

Now if I just didn't have these tunes rattling through my brain when I'm trying to go to sleep

H was on a Bob the Builder kick for a little while. DH would sing "Bob the Builder, can we STAND IT? No, we can't!"
