I LOVE Miss Spider, but Max and Ruby jsut give me chills - it's the voices.....those horrible, horrible high pitched sing-song voices.....I HAVE to turn it off!!

I have an 11yo and am far more freaked out by the shows SHE finds - is anyone else totally mesmerized by the voice given to the seemingly cc character in those manga-type cartoons? It really makes me wonder if all cc come across to asian cultures as screaming every word.....

I think it is the voice tracks that makes or breaks these shows for me - if they are loud, high pitched or whiny I just cringe.

The kiddos here are into SuperWhy, Word World, Yo Gabba Gabba, Dora, Curious George, Clifford, Sesame Street, Little Bill, Charlie and Lola, VeggieTales, and Boomerang (pretty much every show on there).

I can't stand Yo Gabba Gabba. Caillou is so annoying. Spongebob used to be a favorite of the kids but I weaned them off of that crack habit real quick!!!

They prefer PBS Kids, Sprout, Noggin, and Boomerang. Occasionally they will watch Disney and Toon Disney but only when there is a good cartoon movie on. I ordered BabyFirst TV on DirecTv and hopefully that will be a hit.

Our DD loves JoJo's Cirucs, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and the top of the list is Wiggles. She pretty much loves anything with music.

Because we have Disney on most of the time I have to say that we turn it off for Bunny Town. I just can't stand that one.

Shows that I seriously dislike or that simply bug me:

Wiggles--Boring, horrible, horrible production values (the dinosaur is particularly bad). The skits are seriously LAME and unfunny. One of worse around;

Little Einsteins--For a show that is named after one of the world's most famous physicists, I find it offensive that the rocket ship is driven by "pats" rather than fuel. The rocket isn't even aerodynamic! (Check out when the rocket engine drops down from the rocket itself--how can the the thing even fly!?!) The show does a sort of good job introducing kids to artists and musicians but science is just left out of it. Rename it to "Little Mozarts" at the very least. Catchy theme song though!

Bunnytown--ugh. All the bunnies look the same and the humor is very lame.

Mickey Mouse Playhouse--I've never been a fan of Mickey Mouse. I do like the theme song since I'm a fan of They Might Be Giants.

In general, I don't like shows where the characters talk to the audience, like Dora or the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I mean--just get on with it!

Good shows:

SpongeBob--Love it and so does my 2 year-old even though I know she doesn't get most of the humor.

Charlie and Lola--agree with everyone else on this one. Delightful. It's too old for my daughter though. I recently checked out a few DVDs from the library for ME to watch!

DragonTales--I don't know why I like this one. I guess it is the problem-solving aspect of the show. I expected it to be bad and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my first one.

Sesame Street--Can't go wrong with this classic.

Between the Lions
--fun skits, great introduction to phonics.

Handy Manny--I like the animation and think Manny is cute. I'm admit, the talking tools are sort of annoying sometimes, but there is just something about the show I like. It is sort of weird how the show tries to be so realistic about everything, but there are living tools in it!

Nick's favorites have changed a bit recently. He wants to watch Little Bill, Blue's Clues (no Joe, just Steve) and Thomas DVDs. Summer is so much easier to limit TV time, no?

Katie's viewing tastes have recently changed to Blue's Clues. For some reason I can't stomach that program (with either Joe or Steve, makes no difference). It really makes me nauseated. I don't know if it's the poor acting in front of a "green screen", the production value, the songs or what. Every other program she's been into, I've been able to watch with her. Some of them I really even liked. Just can't do it with Blues Clues.

Jenna, yes! We are not watching nearly as much TV now with the weather. YAY!

Kinda OT about Blue's Clues: Has anyone seen the Groundhog Day epi of Jack's Big Music Show? One of the musical interludes is Steve's new band...and Steve is bald! It really took some getting used to but actually, he looks BETTER bald, if you can imagine.

Betelnut, that is hilarious about Little Einsteins! I always hated the patting thing. I mean, I know they want the kids involved but, jeesh. Every show it seems is all about talking directly to the kids or making them do motions. I do love how they involve artists or composers but c'mon, do some composers/music that we kinda know! Some of the pieces they choose are really bizarre!

My 18 month old son likes

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - but only for a short time. loves everything Mickey.

Wiggles - LOVEs them. i like them too, they sing & dance & have good clean fun.

Baby Einstien - not bad, good clean fun.

Barney - not bad for me.

Veggietales - a favorite in this house.

-Why did they cut Playhouse Disney to 9am!? We don't watch it too much past then but now all the shows are just one show & we miss the good ones.

HATES:

Bunnytown - everything about it annoys me. I can't believe they added it, especially in such a prominent time spot. Give THEM the 5:30am & give Wiggles / another that one.

Spongebob - I WILL NOT let him watch this. Too violent / bad manners / etc. I don't want him picking up on that.

Charlie & Lola - I can't stand it really. I don't know what it is...maybe the little girl? I don't know. He has no interest in it though.

Blue's Clues - Never caught this show actually! LOL
Sesame Street - Never caught this one either (I just recently started being home in order to).

Vogi: ITA about Spongebob. I really don't see the appeal. And I figure DS will eventually like it, so why expose him to it earlier than necessary? BTW, on the way to/from Fla, the airline showed spongebob. Yuck.

Also, has anyone else noticed that there really hasn't been a "hit" show for a long time? You know, one where everyone just goes nuts, there's TONS of merchandise, toys, lunch boxes, etc? There really hasn't been a hit show since spongebob/dora/diego, kwim?

Holy cow! I know exactly which song you are talking about and would have never guessed that they are the same person. I do like that song (and Jack's Big Music Show) but still cannot stomach Blue's Clues.

I never realized that was Steve from BC either! Hahaha. I just told my Husband and we laughed.

We don't watch anything but Noggin and PBS because I refuse to expose him to commercials at this point. With my broadcasting history, I KNOW the intentions of commercials and I don't want them exposed to that any sooner than they need to be. Yes, I'm going to be that Mom. LOL

OMG, thank gosh for the warmer weather. Less BOOB TUBE. In fact, some days we don't see any at all....WHOOT!

But I have to say, "what in God's name is this Yo Gabba Gabba?" It actually scares me (DD likes it now...she's so fickle!).

Also, for you "old folk" out there, I have put H&R Puffnstuff on Youtube (talk about a "psychedelic" kids' show) and DD loves it!! Brings back some funny memories for me (this is the one with Witchypoo).

Steve rocks singing about dirt!!! I think it is funny that he got out of the kids biz, only to find himself back in it again... Maybe they had to replace him because he was losing his hair!!?? I do prefer the old Steve episodes to the Joe episodes. DD flips back and forth - but when she wants one, and the other is on, WATCH OUT!! It is not pretty!!

DD#1 LOVES sponge bob - and it is growing on me. He did save us as there was a marathon on when we made an ER trip with a lymph node infection (looked like she swallowed a golf ball...). Good old SB and Patrick kept her occupied for 3 hrs - IV and all....

I love the fossil episode of charlie and lola... (I am a geologist by training). (OT - but we have a nesting pair of blue jays in our yard - and we have taken to calling them Charlie and Lola!!)

Hey!

I finally saw an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba!

Wow. How trippy! It was actually sort of interesting, but I can see why some people don't like it.
