Lately noggin has been on when we get up in the AM and I am working away in the kitchen so I have 2 new shows to add to the ***WTH*** list!
  • Oobi -- just hands! Good message usually but I don't care for the show
  • Upside Down Show! -- AUGHH I am envious of the brothers' stamina but they show drives me nuts!
DD on the other hand likes both???

I found Charlie and Lola!! And it is a breath of fresh air. There are only 4 episodes on "on demand" but who cares? DD yells, "Hey, Charlie" to me all the time now, and declares that she is Lola!! Thanks for the heads up, guys!

Slat, oh yeah! Oobi! Luckily, we don't watch it but have in the past. The concept is almost moronic...talking hands!...but I just can't stomach it. (Can you imagine the pitch meeting for that? Hands! And they talk! ...And someone went, wow! What a GREAT idea!)

Ajax, So glad you found it!

Snaps, my fave episode is "I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed". A month ago, DS was on a C&L kick so we got a bunch of CL DVD's at the library. It was heaven. Sadly, he doesn't really watch them much now.

Now it seems to mostly be Diego. :-(

Sadie, one of DD's earliest phrases was "baby jaguar" (I had no idea what she was talking about).

She is a "girly girl" but she forced me to buy her a Diego suitcase and takes it with her everywhere she goes.....

I honestly don't "get" Dora and Diego. They annoy me.

DD comments on Baby Jaguar freqently as well. She also love Dora and Diego. I kind of get them, but what is the deal with the insects that play music when Dora completes one leg of her journey? Also what is the deal with the stars she is always collecting? Why is a monkey wearing boots? DD likes these shows I think because of the interaction factor (what do we do next? what do we use when we need to figure out where to go? etc etc). She loves Diego too and frequently comments on the animals for example penguins are often "macaroni penguins" (which were featured on one episode)

Morning all! Thought I'd chime in here. Katie's gone through a bunch of different phases with TV shows. Sesame Street was really big for a while, then Dora, then Diego. Jack's Big Music Show has been a perennial favorite. Right now she's into Zaboomafoo because she absolutely loves animals. We have DirecTv with DVR and usually keep about a dozen episodes of her favorite of the moment. We usually limit her to a max of 2 hours per day.

A couple of weeks ago something very weird happened. I was cruising through the channels to get to the XM Radio music channel that we usually listen to and I just happen to stop for a second on one of the birthing shows on Discovery Health. They just showed a delivery by C section and when I moved off the channel, Katie kept telling me to go back. So I did and she watched the rest of the show in total fascination. She kept asking to watch the "baby shows". She only liked shows that showed the babies being born. When the babies came out and they were covered in the birthing goo Katie would say "Ed-dad, that baby needs a bath". It was hilarious! So for about 2 weeks we watched Discovery Health Channel at 2pm so she could watch her "baby shows". One interesting side note to this is that it opened up a discussion with her about adoption and her birthmom. She now knows that babies grow in their mommies tummies and that she did not grow in Mommy's tummy but grew in K's tummy. I think that's pretty advanced for a 2 1/2 year old. We did have an embarassing side effect of this though. We were at Sam's club the other day and next to us in line was a woman who was on the heavy side and carried most of it in her torso. Katie pointed to her belly and asked me "Ed-dad, is there a baby in there?" I wanted to die. Luckily the lady was pretty cool about it.

Ed, first, Katie is a genius and I love that watching the baby shows opened up a good dialogue. Second, she is hilarious! It was probably me she was asking about at Sams Club...ahem!

Btw, DD asked AGAIN about clouds and I was able to answer this time...whew! Thanks again!

I love this thread!!

Shows I won't even let my son watch - Calliou (can't stand that kid), Yo Gabba Gabba (what are those writers on??), Thomas the Train and Max and Ruby.

Shows John can't stand - Clifford, Higglytown Heros, Sponge Bob. He tells me to change these and the one on PBS where the characters are words. He really doesn't like that one.

His old favorites are Diego, Dora, Wiggles, Cars and Backyardigans. I like all of those except when he gets on a kick and wants to watch one of them exclusively. I swear there was a time that I was hoping the animals would turn on Diego and eat him.

Lately he has been watching PBS more and really loves Super Why. It is really cute and educational. Also likes Dragontales and Curious George.

Oh yeah...last year we went to a Wiggles concert and last weekend went to see Diego Live. So I guess I am an enabler!!

oh gosh! T.V. is my next blog issue. i can't believe the shows that are out there!

HATE:
oobi - i can't even stand listening to it from the other room
yo gabba gabba - i just don't get it, but my son loves it
wiggles just annoys me
spongebob is too loud, even with the volume down and i'm pretty sure it causes ADD
lazy town - the sound effects are exhausting and the bad guy is really annoying, but my son loves it

likes:
upside down show - my son does too
little bill is adorable
backyardigans
blue's clues

i don't mind many of the others, dora, diego, winnie the pooh, and mickey mouse clubhouse. i do wonder what some of the writers are on?

Oh, this is funny! Hi, popping over from the Russia board......I am sitting here laughing! I just had this conversation with my neighbor this weekend.....
I had to cut out Calliou because my two year old ( now three) started whinning like him! She went on this phase of only wanting to watch Calliou!! Yikes!!!
We went to a Wiggles concert just two weeks ago!! And she had a Wiggles party for her second b-day! She enjoyed it but doesn't watch the show too much anymore.
I used to like Little Bill, but then there was an episode where a little boy was calling kids names, and what does she pick up on? The name calling...we had to have an entire discussion about that, and a time out!
Oobi jusi creeps me out!!! And HORRAY! I have managed to keep Barney and SpongeBob out of our TV viewing lives!
She really likes Super WHY, Wonder Pets (does remind me of those Quiznos commercials!) and Dora and Diego. There's ALOT of Dora watching in our house!
She is also liking a new show called Ni-hao Kai-lan. It's kinda cute, but a pink rhino flies around by a balloon! huh?????
I so wanted the Baby Einstein DVD collection, and she could have cared less for them! Haven't even opened some of the DVDs in the package. She does like Little Enisteins, she loves the rocket!
The Letter Factory, Word Factory and Storybook Factory are her favorite DVDs!
She also likes to watch SuperNanny! I have threatened that the SN will come put her in a timeout and I think when she's on TV, she feels more safe!!!

Concerning Max & Ruby-Ruby - why hasn't DHS gone into to investigate this family?! Mom and Dad are NEVER around, the poor little girl is always caring for her brother, and her brother is always running and getting into trouble. Obviously someone needs to make certain that these children have parents caring for them!

We like The Wonderpets here. We have the Wonderpets ringtone and background on our cell phones, and the kids dance around and/or run to see the phone when it rings.
