Using my first name

Just wanted to run this by someone to see if this is normal or not. My DD has always called me Ed-dad. It's a name she came up with all on her own and not something we encouraged or promoted. I thought it was cute and very smart that she picked up on my DW calling me "Ed" and me referring to myself as "Dad" and put them together as Ed-dad. For a long time she thought all Daddies were "Ed-dads" but now has made the distinction that Daddie is a title/description and that "Ed-dad" is a name.

Now for the issue that's come up. In the last couple of days she has started calling me just "Ed". When I remind her that I am Ed-dad, she responds "Yes, right. You're not Ed, you're Ed-dad" and then 2 seconds later she calls me "Ed" again. She doesn't call my DW by her first name even though she does know what her first name is. I'm kind of stumped on this one.

My preschooler does the same thing - he calls me mommy and generally calls DH dad, but sometimes he calls him Michael or Mike - usually it's when he's taking my DH to task - lol - wonder where he gets it from? I think it's pretty much a phase because JD says it less now than he did 6 months ago...

Keep "reminding" her and she'll eventually drop the Ed part - hopefully...

Yeah. My little one called me "Chris" for a while. No mommy, just Chris. Now, I begged the second one to call me "Chris" or mommy or anything

My niece went through a phase of calling her Mom by her first name. It was cute to everyone but her Mom!! It was just a phase I don't remeber how long it lasted tho...

My 3 y.o. is doing the same thing. I did notice @ pre school that they are learning the full names of all their class mates and then she started wanting to learn the full name for me , Nana and Papa. This then led to her referring to us by our "names" sometimes. Which is perfectly fine w/ me. I think it is actually very cute to hear her call me by my name.

Aw, Ed-Dad is cute!

Our little guy is still so young that we're not dealing with this yet, but a friend of mine who's daughter is 3 had this problem for awhile. She went from being "Mama" to being "Mama Jan" or even just "Jan". Everyone would encourage her to just say Mama but as soon as someone called her Jan her daughter went right back to using it. I know it bugged my friend a bit but it was pretty cute, and she stopped doing it once she became old enough to understand why she had to call her mom Mama while everyone else called her Jan.

She's getting a little better about it now. This only seemed to last about 3 or 4 days and I was getting a little frustrated. My DW put it in perspective when she asked me if this would bother me as much if our DD wasn't adopted. I guess that hit the nail right on the head.
