Bad Mommy day...

Well Cameron got his first knot on his head today. And his second... The first happened while I was outside with the dog. Cameron was sitting on the linoleum floor right inside the door and I was watching him through the window. He tried to stand up and fell down. The second was just a little bit ago. I was at the sink cleaning potatoes for dinner and he was playing with his Fridge Phonics three feet behind me. All of a sudden I heard a crack. I'm having a horrible mommy day. My kid has two big knots one on either side of his forehead and it is my fault. And I just started in home child care. People are paying me to watch their kids. I am terrified now that this will happen to a daycare kid. Of course dh did not make it any better when he told me I was a bad mommy. I know he was joking, but it still hurt...

I don't like this learning to walk phase...

We have all been there. I have a son the same age and he almost always has a bruise somewhere on his head. And he has come home with some pretty good ones from daycare too. It is unfortunately part of learning to walk. Good Luck!

You are not alone, Marci. It is not possible to be right there every single second, and even if it were possible it wouldn't be good for them. Life's full of bumps and bruises. He will be OK....and so will you.

Join the Mommy Club... My DD broke her arm@ 17 mo. We were on vacation w/ my parents in their coach @ the beach. They were at a "coach club" meeting and I was sitting on the recliner holding the dogs while DD played around the couch. Next thing I know she is on the floor --- screaming. I never imagined she broke her arm so I was trying to calm her, change her diaper and clothes. When my parents came back we decided to head to the emergency room but DD fell asleep. When she woke up she seemed ok. She went the WHOLE WEEKEND ON VACATION w/ a broken arm. It wasn't until it swelled to double the size it should be on Monday when I took her to the Dr. and found she had a broken humerous bone. Mommy GUILT BIG TIME!

So hang in there! Stuff happens!

Just yesterday DH "lost" the boys while he was getting ready for work...before the sitter showed up. They had BOTH crawled in the dryer and closed the door. They got stuck and were in there for about 5 minutes. Can I say I wanted to KILL him when I heard? He is a great dad...but these things happen. Our house was remodeled and the laundry area is just plain weird...but we will be hitting the Home Depot to design a door or locking mechanizm of some kind to prevent this from happening in the future.

Bumps happen, Little C is 4 and she got one on her chin the other day from jumping head first into the kiddy pool. Then about two days ago she got a huge one on her head from doing the same thing! You'd figure she would of learned the first time. All of this happened while she was at the babysitters. I feel so bad though cause she looks horrible right now.

Even though Reid has been walking for quite awhile now, he falls down CONSTANTLY and the funny thing is we are so used to it. He takes it like a trooper. Right now he has a skinned knee (which he likes to pick at...takes after me)...about a month and a half ago he was running across the concrete driveway and I knew he was going to fast and just as I was running to catch him, he fell forward and I heard his melon head hit the pavement which terrified me. He had a bump and did that cry where there's no noise...after 5 minutes he was just fine. You'll ger used to it and Cameron will also eventually learn how to fall more safely. Till then, just hold your breath and hope for the best. And YAY, he's starting to WALK!!

Here's one of our recent ones (ya know, minus the stairs debacle).

Nick was climbing in and out of his turtle sandbox. He's gotten pretty good at it and tries to go fast. I could tell he was getting ahead of himself and was about to say his name when his foot caught and he did a header into the grass. I mean, seriously, face first. He wasn't hurt. He didn't cry. But... hehehehe... he had grass all over his face.

So I took a picture.

Yeah, I'm a bad mommy.

OK...I have the topper and feel like the world's worst mom...my son's LOVE to swim naked in the backyard. Bug got stung on the tip of his penis yesterday. It swelled up so bad that I rushed him to the ER.

What made it even worse, I was in such a rush to get him there that it was not until they were checking us in that I realized he was not only still naked, but I had not brought so much as a diaper for him. Not a good day!

Bug-n-Bears - Hilarious! You've just made my day!
You know the ER nurses are going to chuckle at that one for a while.
How's your little guy doing, anyway?

Bug-n-Bear: I hope your little one is okay. I chuckled at the image as I could imagine myself doing the exact same thing.

My son Jack loves to run and climb and fling himself this way and that. Most days he looks like he just went through a battle. Just the other day he tumbled off our front stoop even though I was RIGHT THERE! I watched him fall in slow motion. He landed face first in a patch of dirt in the flowerbed. Rather than cry, he dusted himself off and then proceeded to grab a handful of the same dirt he was just lying in and stick it in his mouth and....SWALLOW! All as I scrambled to get him. Not only did he have a scratch on the side of his cheek, he had absolutely black teeth. I know because he gave me a huge devilish grin after he did it. Bad, Bad Mommy...Crazy, Wild Boy!
Peace,
K

I am happy to report that after 3 days Bug's penis is back to it's normal size...thank GOD! I would say the first night was the worst when I had to put a diaper back on him for bed time. He held himself, rocked, and cried. Since DH was working a graveyard, he came to bed with mommy. To make things worse for the little man, the doctor that looked at him was the same doctor that gave him stitches at his last ER visit 2 months ago. Needless to say, he remembered her.

Another little funny though, when she was going in with her stethescope to listen to his breathing, he started freaking out. She picked up her name badge and showed it to him to distract him and said "see that? What do you think of that? See my picture?" Without missing a beat he said "hot". I had tears running down my face from laughing and one of the nurses had to leave the room holding her mouth. I could hear her telling all the nurses at the station what "that little cutie in room 26 just said". Even at his worst my little guy can still flirt it up!

OK, I'm not having a bad mommy day but a bad mommy funk I think.

Here are all the things that I do "wrong":

DS will be 2.5 on H'ween and...
-still uses a "bink"
-doesn't sleep in a toddler bed
-doesn't go to preschool
-has absolutely NO interest in using the potty

I will say, however, that I get remarks all the time about his verbal skills...one time I counted and he said an 8 word sentence! This, from a child who never said more than mama, dada and baba until age 2!

I guess I have a "do it in my time" guy?
