Will we survive toddlerhood?
Oh my! My baby boy is SO active. And apparently, fearless. All boy? Maybe. Or perhaps he's just all toddler! It's already taking it's toll on me, and he's only been a toddler a few months!!!
My MIL says she just runs behind him, already imagining trips to the ER for broken bones and stitches... He's just full steam ahead! In the past few months, we've had: a tiny cut on back of head where he didn't realize he shouldn't stick his head inside the cabinet then get out in a hurry; one bump on the back from standing up too quickly underneath a countertop; black eye #1 from falling off the bed while trying to avoid a diaper change; a tumble down the stairs (near-heart attack #1 for Mama. Took a few years off my life); a couple of falls due to climbing up on things; dog bite (that one cost me 5 years of my life! Trauma #2); and then last night, a big fall into either a toy or the corner of a hutch which resulted in a scrape, swelling and bruising under the eye just healing from the bite! Trying to keep the humor here, I'm calling him "Bruiser" and "Shiner" a bit. I know kids will be kids, but for crying out loud! This is killing me! I'm already slightly overprotective (where can I buy a onesie made of bubble wrap for the kid?) and anal as a first time mom. I'm trying not to worry about all the "what-ifs" as it is. I'm not sure how laid back I can become, but is there any advice on how to get through the next couple of years??? I was first worried about HIM making through in one piece. Now, I'm trying not to get eaten alive with the worry and stress! (Gee - could this be why my sister, mother of two, has an ulcer???)

Would it help if I tell you it does get a little better? My dd was just as bad as my ds. She was in the church nursery one Sunday and fell down and hit a rocking chair. Left a nice little cut and black eye. Bad thing, pictures for the church directory were that week. I am going to post the picture, if you look at her right eye, you can see it is still a little swelled, I know I can see the cut, but I do not know if it will show up on here.

It doesn't get any better...
Sorry to say. My son, now 16, was JUST like that and he still is. When he was a toddler, he managed to have a bruise, a bump, a black eye...something...for every single holiday! I used to be nervous to take him to the doctor!
But once I said something about his bruised shins (which were pretty much permanent until he was 5..LOL.) The ped said "I can tell the bumps and bruises of a healthy active kid from abuse so don't worry. I expect to see them like this at this age." WHEW! Even at 16, he always seem to have a cut, a bruise, something! Robin |

Okay, Robin - you're still here with us, so I guess I can survive!
Sniff - Awwww. I can just barely see it. I do recall some others saying that these things usually happen right before you have a professional photo session scheduled or school pictures will be taken! I took a photo of the first cut. And first black eye,a nd dog bite. I think that will suffice for the baby book. Hate to get many more of those developed, less the photo people think it's abuse! Plus, I can only store so many pics on my camera!
