Outdoor Winter Activities
Parents Magazine ( Jan 2007 issue "Snow Much Fun" or you can view online) had some really fun-sounding activities for snowy weather in a recent issue. Some were for older kids.
What do you do with your toddlers during the wintry season (if you live in an area with ice and snow!) So far, we've taken our 16 mo sledding twice, and he LOVES it! It's a WONDERFUL workout for Mama, too, pulling him around on the sled. We're expecting a possible 10 more inches of snow in the next day or two (and I"ll just pretend I didn't read about the ice or negative temps which may accompany this), and it looks like we'll have snow for quite a while longer. Any good ideas?

We love painting the snow. I fill up a clear squeezy bottle w/ water and a little food coloring and Grace loves to make the snow all the pretty colors!!
Sledding is always fun too! Grace is 2 /12 and this is our second winter ice skating with her! You have to make the best of the long cold months!

Great thread and great idea to share Britfish. So far, just walking in the snow is enough to keep Nick entertained.
If you're going to be outside and bundled up anyway, why not go to the park and swing on the swings? It's beautiful and quiet without other children (unless their mommies have the same idea). Nick loves swinging and snow so it was a double blast. ![]()

I am a winter wimp. *Cold = stay inside at all costs*. Bad mommy, I know, but brrrrrrr. Poor Reid gets his fresh air from the house to the car each day...maybe I'll feel better about it when he can walk around and actually tell me if he's too cold or too hot. Or maybe we'll just stay inside and drink cocoa...

Just wait until you give him a sled ride for the first time! We keep waiting until it hits over 20 or 25 degrees, no wind - then we venture out. The sweet red cheeks, sparkling eyes, and baby laughter are enough to make me brave the elements! It doesn't seem so bad once there are layers of wool socks, thermals, scarves, ear wraps and ski clothes on! Plus, after a couple of rounds of the yard, I'm usually starting to strip off those outer layers, I get too hot.
And we don't stay out more than half an hour. It's SO much fun!!!!
