Suggest a Book/Series of Books for a 3 Year Old Girl

I'm a book nerd. I've been trying to think of something to get for Munchkin for our visit in August (visits, as we're seeing each other twice due to an unexpected event!). I have decided that I want to start giving her books as gifts instead of toys (though, birthdays and christmas will bring toys).

But I don't know what three year old girls would like to read about!

So, for those of you with toddler aged girls, what do they like to read about/talk about? Any good series for this age? She likes books but I just don't know where to take this one.

Any help and suggestions will ALL be appreciated!

At this age, DD loved a book that was a purse -- "My Granny's Purse." You could take out postcards sent from Cairo, stamps, lipstick, mirror, sunglasses, keys...everything DD is STILL fascinated by.

For next year, be sure to get Jamie Lee Curtis's "When I Was Little: A 4Year-Old's Memoir of Her Youth."

That's great that you get to see Munchkin a few times over the summer. Enjoy!

Right up my alley here, both as a teacher and a mommy to a three year old. Both of the above mentioned books are hits with my daughter. Some others are "Crysanthemum" and "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse." "The Little Engine that Could" is another we are reading ALL the time right now.

At this age, they also love any books with their favorite characters--we read Clifford and Dora books far more than I would like. Curious George books are fun and so are the Dr. Seuss books, especially "Green Eggs and Ham" and "Fox in Socks"

Others I can think of sitting at the computer...
Any of the series of books by Laura Numeroff ("If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," etc.)

The "Froggy" series by Jonathan London,

"Five Little Monkeys" books by Eileen Christelow (titles like "5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed," "Don't Wake Up Mama!," "5 Little Monkeys Wash the Car"...)

Jan Brett's books ("The Mitten," "The Hat," "The Umbrella")

Oooh, I could keep going...better stop

Enjoy an hour in the children's section of your favorite bookstore!

I just sent my 3 yr old a book called "It's Okay to be Different" by Todd Parr that has things in it to do with adoption and her parents told me that she loves that book.

My 3 yr old's parents also said they have other books by Todd Parr that she really likes.
