scared of room

We just moved into a new house last week and my 3 year old loves the house and was doing great in her room., until she had a nightmare 2 nights ago and now is scared of her room because of the shark people. I don't know how to make her understand that there is nothing to be scared of. The house we live in used to be my mom's house, but we moved in when she moved out of state. So she knows this house very well. Any suggestions on getting her back in her bed?

A few months ago, my 3 year old decided there were monsters in our house. We have never talked about monsters, so don't know where that came from, but I know it's common. The first thing out of my mouth, without really even thinking, was "No, there aren't any monsters in our house. Mr. Duane sprays for them when he comes to spray for bugs." She was thrilled with that answer. So, if you have a "bug man" that might work...

A friend of mine has a special spray bottle filled with "magic" spray (water and some sequin/glittery stuff) in her daughter's room that she can mist before bed time if needed. Someone else uses oneof those scented sprays from Bath and Body Works.

Good luck!

Thanks good idea. She did sleep in her room last night, but as soon as she woke up she was screaming for me.

We also did the spray bottle for my then 3yo DD. We used just water, but DD drew a monster on a label for the bottle. We misted "Monster spray" in her room for a few nights and she kept it by her bed, but didn't need it for very long.

Good luck!

I love it, too! What a great idea. If only...
With my DH very happy with co-sleeping and DS very pleased that Dad's in his corner (of the bed), the room won't be happening any time soon, monstercide or none. DD, however, 13 months old, loves her own space...her bed, her room... and breathes a smiling sigh of relief when she goes down.

When my kids are scared of the monsters, I vacuum the monsters up and throw them in garbage and during my spring cleaning when I washed the walls down, I washed the monsters away. It seems to work

We actually had some problems with this as well with our three year old and I heard to try putting an alarm on the door and window. Our 3 year old sleeps in the dark now with no problem. We got the alarms at Home Depot for like ten bucks.

A Shirt

My daughter had similar problems. I now give her a t-shirt of mine that I've worn that week to sleep with. It still smells like me and brings her comfort. Solved all our problems!

Great Ideas

What wonderful ideas you all have. I heard the spray bottle thing for the monsters has worked on several occasions for kids that are afraid of the dark because of monsters or other things...some of the other ideas are great, too. My son hasn't reached that point yet but may.
