We are looking at a little girl from Thailand and were wondering if anyone has heard of or used Loving Adoptions Worldwide out of Florida? Have you been happy with them if you have? Also, how long does it usually take to receive your child if you already know who she is?

what a coincidence!
I just called that agency today, wonder if it's the same girl we're looking at? They seemed very nice over the phone.

I called them too, but just for general info about their Thailand program. They said that you do not have to travel at all even if it is your first adoption from there. I cant find any other agency to tell me the same thing, so I am a little concerned, but they did seem super nice on the phone.

I was told by other larger agencies to be very wary of an agency that says you dont have to travel to Thailand to adopt. Not only do you have to travel and appear before the court, BOTH parents must be there. I did email LAW and they said they would get back to me w/the paperwork they have that says you dont have to travel, but I am very skeptical of this program. I also think it is strange that they only posted that one child, and never any more.....

Also...
I am told that Thailand frowns upon its children being photolisted...so, something seems a bit off here. hmmmm...

Thailand
Just so you all know, that agency is not a licensed agency, rather a group of attorneys performing "independent adoptions" whatever that means. I don't think that they were complying with Thailand adoption regulations either. Just sounds too weird for me.

Hi all. Husband is Thai.
We did not consider adopting from Thailand; however, my mother in law who returns home several times a year had other plans. Most children who are eligible for adoption in Thailand are over the age of three and would likely be 4 or 5 before arriving home; most have special needs, may be minor and correctable with surgery. Many people who have adopted successfully from Thailand are Scandinavian, as it is a huge holiday destination for them. Both parents MUST travel to Thailand and stay the duration of the process. I would only consider a very established program who has a strong relationship with Thai officials and can place you in contact with other families for reference.
Hopefully this website can help provide some information. http://www.neiu.edu/~rghiggin/Thaiadopt/start.html Last edited by redhedded : 01-19-2004 at 03:37 PM. |

LOVING ADOPTIONS?
I TOO AM VERY SKEPTICAL OF THIS AGENCY. THEY WERE JUST FORMED THREE WEEKS AGO AND WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY REFERENCES OR HISTORY OF SUCCESSFUL ADOPTIONS.

Good to be cautious
What is this agency saying about healthy referrals from Thailand? How can they have healthy children waiting? The Thailand Adopt list has people who have waited a few years for a referral.

Alot of adoption agentcies have their lawyer teams. Money make human do things. Adoption is a big business. Each adoption transaction cost is huge. Now, who's really helping who? Choose your agent carefully.

I agree! Although i'm from Quebec Canada, my agency told me you must travel, and both parents must appear... BEWARE OF INTERNATIONAL INDEPENDENT ADOPTION! IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO GET ALL OF THE LAWS RIGHT... IT TAKES NERVES OF STEEL AND EVEN THEN IT'S RISKY!

I would not say beware of ALL independent international adoptions. I know many people adopt using an attorney only in Guatemalan adoptions and bypass the agency all together.
Now whether this is possible in Thailand or not, I have no idea. I know it is legal and ethical in Guatemala.
