State/County vs. Private Agency- Pros & Cons
I'm looking for information about navigating TX (Houston area) foster care system. I'd like to start training/home study but am unsure if I should contact an agency (private or non profit) vs. state/county system. What is the practical difference between the two? Can you list some pros and cons for each?
My specifics: I'm looking to foster (and possibly foster to adopt) and Older child with no (or mild) special needs. Would a private agency offer more services/support? Are they all the same? Any info would be appreciated. |

I can only speak about my experience through the state, also in the Houston area.
The experience was great, had it's flaws and frustrations, but I found 2 people in the Houston office I could call and count on to get things moving. One was my PRIDE trainer. I really suggest developing a strong relationship with yours. I did straight adopt so I can't speak to fostering. |
