What can I do? Can I still do something about an intrest on a child?
Okay so we received an email form a person we did not know on 9/22/09 at 2:11pm. Well it turns out that it was from a case worker letting us know that we had been selected to receive an email based upon the preferences we selected when registering on Adoption Family Network (AFN). the thing now is that we just read the message this morning and the deadline was yesterday (9/23/09) at five. We are interested on the child so we called our case worker who turns out to be on training and will not be back until Monday. I have also called the caseworker who sent the email (got her info from the email) but there is no answer. What Can I do now just wait?? Will they still consider us for the child or should we just get over it?

I regret that you didn't get a response yesterday to your post.
Here's my opinion - I would send an email to the caseworker who had the child and copy your caseworker. Start with saying that you are still interested in the child and then explain the following: (1) your family structure - ie other kids in the home/one or two parent/etc, (2) your step in the process - completed home study, training complete or in progress, etc, (3) how you would see the child fitting into your home - activities you would do together if they are older, what you have set up as far as a nursery or special needs if those apply, etc. (4) how to contact you. This is the information that they would have requested if you had been able to submit the online "interest form" so at least the caseworker will have the information. If you truly are the best fit for the child, the caseworker will still consider you. My husband had seen a child posted on TARE and sent me the link but I was traveling and couldn't look at the link until the following day and by then the "deadline" for her had passed. (Similar to your situation but slightly different.) We did still submit interest to the caseworker and notified our caseworker via copy of the email. Now, we are in preplacement visits with Princess, the aforementioned child. So don't lose hope....If it is the right fit, a delay won't hurt. BUT...They may be planning on a homestudy review/placement discussion on Monday morning so I would send it tonight or over the weekend so that they have it before Monday morning. |
