Time line????

Can anyone offer a time line to the whole foster/adoption process??

We have already been to the informational meeting, been screened and had our back ground checked. We will start our PRIDE classes in sept cause we are doing the saturday classes, but where does it go from there??? Like when is the home study done?? What all is involved with the process etc etc????

please advise!!!!!

Thanks!

First, welcome to the forums. Glad to have you here.

Each state is a little different, but the same basic things happen. Some states call the classes PRIDE, others MAPP and at least one FOUNDATIONS.

I'm not sure how long it will take to get through the classes doing them only on Saturdays. Where I am there is a Saturday orientation and then 9 weeks of classes at 3 hrs each one night a week.

You will need to line up 3 - 4 people for references. There will be at least one dr appt so the dr can fill out paperwork attesting to your health.

Then there is the time for doing the different home visits for the home study.

After that you get the fun of waiting for everything to be approved. This may seem like the longest part of the entire process because by then you will be very anxious to get your first placement.

If you decide to go straight adoption it can lengthen the time it takes to get a placement, especially if you want an infant.

Good luck on your journey. Visit us often.

Well our classes are only for 6 weeks, but all in all how long would you say it is from start to finish of being approved?

It took 8 months just to get approved. I Went to my informational orientation in October and got approved in early June. That was through the Houston office.

We went with an agency and started classes in April 09, we will be licesned next week. We are also in the Houston area and had a hard time with CPS returning our calls etc, so we decided to go with the agency since we were always able to get in touch with them. As it turns out, we have several acquaitances who have fostered to adopt through the same agency.

Finally!!

You can see from the info below our time line. We are actually foster/adopt licensed (through CPS Region 3) but not on the foster list, so we consider ourselves "straight adoption". We wanted to go straight adopt, but didn't want to cut out any options. We are soooo excited that we are about to have our boys. Basically the process took from 4/26/08 to 8/20/09. I have learned sooo much about patience.

I started classes at the end of September '07 (2 weeks of classes) and was licensed by mid November '07. Started getting calls about children about 10 days later. I am with an Agency in the DFW area.

All in all it depends who are going thru. What their process is. How fast you are at turning around their paperwork (many families are slow getting paperwork handed in). How many homes they have to license at the time.

My advice to you. Do your paperwork as fast as you can. That can be a big hold up.

We started the process a year and a half ago. I strongly recommend you you keep copies of your paperwork and all emails. We spent a month re-doing (and tracking down) paperwork that was lost.
