Got a Placement!

Hello all,

I've been licensed since February for age 0-6 with zero phone calls for placement. Last week I said I would take pregnant or parenting teens. I was told those aren't very common, but they would write it down "just in case." And VOILA, my pregnant teenager will be here on Monday. She's 16, due in July with a girl. I'm excited, but nervous! I hope I can encourage her to be a good mom and break the cycle of abuse! I've never fostered a teen before, so any advice is welcome.

Congrats on the placement!!! I don't foster teens, but I have a friend who does. Since she is getting close to her due date, I would imagine alot of it is going to be getting her to her doctor's appointments and encouraging her to stay rested and healthy for the delivery. After the baby is born, who knows what will happen. Some teens do really well learning to care for their babies while in foster care, and others seem to perpetuate the habit of making poor choices. Ultimately your fd is still a child herself so just try to be understanding and encourage her to bond with the baby. Good luck and best wishes!!! Let us know how it goes.
