We have adopted 3 wonderful kids from fostercare, two years ago. We are in the process of getting back in to it. It seems like it is taking a lot longer to have kids placed. I live in region 3 and was wondering about how long does in take to get a legal risk or straight adopt girl or two age 0-11 ?

We have been waiting 8 months so far, in region 8. I guess we will see how long it will be.

What age and how many are you wanting?

girl age 0-9; just want one; I was told by my caseworker that some recent legislative changes have slowed down referals. She said it will happen, but it may take a bit longer than I would like. The changes she reference are that removal workers are now open to lawsuits for "unnecessary" removals and that relatives can now be paid for fostering. I am trying to be patient.

We have 5 kids and one is under 5, so we have to wait till Sept. to get on the list, we were going to just foster, but after thinkig about it we are wanting at least one more. My kids are not sure how hard it would be if one had to go home, so we are not sure about fostering now. I just don't know about waiting that long, how hard has it been for you?

The wait has been hard for me, but the rest of my family has done well. I am so ready to adopt again and complete our family. My boys did not handle the reunification of a placement last year very well. They were only 2 1/2 though, so I don't know how older kids would do. I have decided it is worth the wait to avoid that situation again. Still, I check the photolistings everyday in hopes of finding our child. Best wishes as you begin your journey.
