Financial Requirements for Foster-Adopt

Ok..have a question that the CW couldn't answer last night, so I'm going to throw it out here to ya'll :P

How far back were you required to provide financial information/stablity for your foster adoption?

They told us last night that as long as we could prove that we make enough money to cover all of our living expenses that they didn't care about our credit rating or past financial history for actual foster care...but they couldn't tell us about the actual adoption part...

To be honest to last 3 years have been very rough on us financial with family illness & job losses, and we are just now starting to get back on our feet. We don't have any forclosures or repossessions on our credit..just lots of late payments and such...have a good house, dependable cars and steady jobs...just sucky credit right now, and very little in savings.

SO...questions: What were you required to show financial wise when you were getting ready to adopt??

As much as I don't want to have to wait another year or two to really get started with the process, I don't want a failed homestudy due to finances on my record either...KWIM?

We are planning on waiting a few more months so that we will have a 'perfect' 6+ months on our credit scores before we start PRIDE...and to get our savings built back up...but I worry that it won't be enough...lol

Can you tell that I like plans and organization and am detail oriented? LOL

We were licensed through a private agency for foster care. They had a financial sheet we had to fill out, but they never asked to see any actual paperwork. It was a simple worksheet that had you list your expenses and incomes and the total left over at the end of the month. They did not inquire about any savings,401K, or investments we have. They only want to know that you are able to pay your bills without the monthly stipend from the state. They never asked about past financial history.

When we adopted our foster children, they did not do a credit check. We just had to fill out a financial form listing income and outgo and they sent a form to our places of employment to verify our income and length of service. It was really very easy and quick. They just want to make sure you can support your family, you don't have to be rich.

I finfshed all that paperwork in Nov. They had us fill out a "monthly expenses" sheet and turn in ane moths worth of pay stubs. That was it. They only wanted to see that our self reported expenses were less than the amount we make in a month.

I, too, turned in two paystubs and they asked what my rent and utility bills were. No biggie.

We only turned in pay stubs and I think our prior year taxes, so didnt really show credit just income.

finances

They just wanted to see that I could pay my bills on my own; that I wasn't fostering "for the money". When I adopted, I had to send in proof of medical insurance.
