WIC for children under 5?

I in the process of starting the process in Region 4, and there is some info that I can't find, As foster moms are we eligable for WIC automatically no matter what our personal income?

I seem to be able to find the information about other states...but not Texas! lol

Help?!?

The foster children (under the age of 5) are eligible for WIC. You would take your placement papers or medicaid to your appointment with WIC. Your income will not be considered under this circumstance.

Foster KIDS (not moms) are eligible for WIC, because their income is low enough, and because they are on Medicaid.

So if they are eligable for WIC then there would be some small help with food items? So that subsidy money could be used for things like clothes & diapers? I'm just work on a possible budget and trying to figure in food and things like that...If I'm getting some basic foods that kids run through quick, like milk and bread through WIC...that would change a food budget big time lol

The kids are elegible -stay firm in that you are not giving any personnal information - you can have a judge send WIC a letter (that usually stops the quesitoning) For a baby you get formula but I usually needed to buy one or two more additional canisters a month. For toddlers you get milk, cheerios, blocks of cheese ect. Look at your grocery store & you will see "WIC approved item" that will give you some idea as to what is covered - you have to get it exactly as the coupon says (ie:16 oz-you can't get 2 8oz of the item it HAS to be 16oz)

The subsidy is for toys, clothes, food, diapers not covered by WIC. TX also has a clothing voucher - I think $60.00 every 3 months-you may have to ask for & remind your cw for it.

Who has a clothing voucher. We asked the agency about that when we were in class and she said they do not do that. But, what my private agency does is give you more foster subsidy than the state gives.

amount of clothing voucher depends on what county the kids come from ,
Harris Pay's $60. every 3 months , Galveston is $80, plus if they are in Diaper the pay give You $30 every three months , plus a tax expimt form also .
I'm not sure what county beumont's in , but they pay $150 every three months . which is great if you take babys like we do .

I know the region where the op is well. Same one as us. Most counties do NOT have a clothing allowance here. There is honestly only one I can think of that does have a quarterly clothing allowance here. A few do not even have an initial clothing allowance. Which hurts when you get a newborn straigh from the hospital! So it varies greatly.
