Hi sort a new to this board

After waiting a long time and going over many hurdles we are finally ready to adopt.

We just went to the informational meeting have the forms filled out, have pics ready to go, and we decide to go with a private agency. Now I'm wondering if that's a good choice after reading posts on here on the contrary.

I'm in Region 3 and would love to know if there are any private agencies i should stay away from. I don't want anything to delay this process for us.
the reason I didn't want to go through CPS is that a co worker told me it took her 11 months to get licensed.
We just don't want to be waiting around for a child (we want a sibling set of 2) because if the agency.

thanks for your help,

Barb

What age range do you want? Are you wanting to foster, foster/adopt or adopt?

I'm in region 3 also. We went with a private agency because that is what CPS told us to do at an informational meeting. They said to pick an agency. If we wanted to go with CPS it would take longer.

We started classes in late Oct and finished all of that by early Dec. Christmas really slowed us down because we are so involved with choir and DD's things during the holidays. In Jan we took the time to do some home improvements and in Feb we had fire inspection and CW came over to finish the home study. All the paperwork was turned in by May and in June we were licensed. The slow down was entirely on us , not the agency. By July we had our first placement.

Our agency has been great with us, and I also have a great relationship with the workers at our local CPS office. They know me really well because I transport our kids for visits and that gives me time to talk to the CW and other people involved. I'm so glad I did that.

Either way you go, the process is the same. Sometimes with an agency you can develop a closer relationship with the people there. At CPS there can be a high turnover rate of CW's and they usually have a higher case load. Agencies can also target groups of people by being affiliated with a particular religion, or by providing services to different kinds of kids, etc. Good luck with whatever road you take.
