We have been approved since 03/08 and finally in 08/08 began he process of possibly doing a Legal Risk placement that turned into lets wait til parental rights are terminated in 10/08 to Monday the judge ruled the girls we were hoping to adopt are going home to a family member. All this waiting months and months only to be handed a devestating blow. According to DFPS website there are 6900 children in need of forever families HELLO family in need of child/children! I am about to loose it. AHHHHHH anyone else feeling this way? |

We have been doing this for a year and a half. We get our kids next week. We went through a similar situation this Summer with two girls. Then, we get the call one day that we aren't getting them. The judge ruled the other way, etc. I know it is heart breaking. I also know there are a lot of us out here trying to adopt. It will happen, but I have a distinct distrust of the whole system, now. People are always asking me about all the commercials about kids who need to be adopted, etc. Then, they look at us and can't believe how long it has taken. Something is very messed up in this system.

well part of the 'problem withthe system' is that people don't want those older kids on the websites of 'available' children. they want sweet, healthy caucausion babies, for hte most part.

Wow. You seem really new to these boards. I have been posting for quite a while about trying to adopt older children. We have been on 9 "short lists" for these children. Some of the staffing decisions on these children took months when they could have taken days. Your tone has been very sharp in this post and others. Please consider that you may not have all of the story when you respond to some of the posts. This is a very flawed system. Children are being damaged by waiting for families that are already sitting there. Yes, that includes the older children. I had three couples in my training alone trying to adopt teenagers. It took them about year. These were well qualified people. Yes, you hear the great story every once in a while about people who finish training and are matched the next week. That rarely happens. Pleasebe considerate of others.

Wow, we've been in this process for a long time too. We've been licensed since 4/08 and are not matched and do not have a placement. We ARE one of those that do want the 'older' children, we just haven't been selected yet. There are alot of people waiting for 'the call'. Just like so many posters have said on here, it is a very long wait and yes it's hard, but we've all been through it or are going through it.

I am just beginning to get the picture!! I have been trying for two months for someone to tell me how to get a health inspection in a county without a health department. three weeks now with no return phone call. I thought these kids needed homes???? And I also went to the local children's shelter to volunteer, which they thoguth was great, and then told me all I would be allowed to do was observe. How do you help by observing?? I have 10 years child care and two teenagers and I am not allowed to rock a crying baby? What is with these people?

Its like that everywhere. This is the end of our first month and we're still waiting for the CW for the girls (who are 10 and SN) to get back to our Agency about them. Its one of those, "Hello here is a family that would give anything for those girls and you can't return a phone call?" Its so frusterating and when you vent people who haven't been through the system don't understand. The other issue we encounter is that we're not stable because my husband is in the military. I'm sorry but our income is stable, we have wonderful medical and a huge support system but because he's military we shouldn't be able to adopt. It drives me nuts most of the time.
