I am a single parent with two bio children (ages 10 and 5), and I was interested in foster parenting long before I even was a birth mother. I work with a lot of CPS children in a different capacity, but now that my life has calmed down, I am interested in being a foster parent. I am open to adopt, but I can't say that would be my main goal--just would hate to have a child in my home who fits wonderfully and then I do not have that option because of licensing, etc.

Obviously I work, and I would have to have children younger than my youngest, so I would need an agency that is comfortable with daycare with preschoolers as well as single moms. I am fluent in Spanish as well. I hear that it takes forever to be licensed by CPS, but I hear it takes a long time to get kids from agencies, too. The couple of agencies I have researched require the moms to the preschoolers be SAHM, and I simply cannot do that. What agencies would be a good fit? Also, can I get a lot of training elsewhere and it count for an agency? (I used to provide some of the training, but I am guessing I am going to have to sit through it anyway!)

I have seen alot of single moms highly encouraged to foster in this forum. It does all depend on the agency. I am in Houston as well but would highly encourage you to select a couple of agencies you had in mind and call them. Each one is diff and has diff sets of rules.
