new itty bitty - eating question

Last Wed., I received my first itty bitty placement (2 day old baby boy). He is doing well. I'm trying to adjust to little sleep and still getting up to go to work. (I have been waiting 2 months for a placement from my agency)

the question - He gets the hiccups after just about every feeding. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to help prevent this from happening? he is eating very well - 2 oz about every 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Check the nipple - it may either have too large a hole or you may need to try a different kind.

Also - make sure you are burping during the feeding (ie half way through) and not just at the end.

Hope that helps!

If you're not already, feed him sitting upright (as opposed to feeding the baby when he is cradled in a laying-down position). You can still cradle him but at a 45 degree angle I'd say. You'll want to slant the bottle to compensate so he doesn't suck in air.

Good luck!
