Question Another Newby Here needing information

Hello to you all:

I have been reading the Forum for a while now and I am looking for information about agencies that may serve Region 5 for Foster/Adopt. I would welcome any information about what is available here or Regions 4 & 6.

Thanks and Happy New Year to ALL

Hoping To Be a Single Foster Mom in TX

Agencies

I cannot tell you about specific agencies, but there definately are some differences. If you have already started the process, I assume you have gone to an informational meeting already?
Foster/Adopt Information Meetings (TARE)
There you will listen to a speaker and have a chance to meet with different agencies.

I am now going directly through CPS after being with a private agency. It took forever to switch my license, so it is better to be happy from the beginning.

Ask these questions to pick a private agency..1) Are the classes offered close by and often, so it is convenient for you? 2) Does the agency offer a support group? 3) Can you talk to other people already at the agency? 4) What paper work requirements does the agency have (some require lots more than others)? 5) What is the turn over rate for their case workers? 6) Can you Foster AND Adopt?

If you decide to go directly thru CPS, be prepared for it taking forever to be licensed. The pros are though that you do not have a middle man, less paperwork and fuss. But I have heard of the process dragging out for over a year or more, if ever, with CPS.

Private agencies are faster, but you will be expected to do tons more paperwork, and have people at your house every month. The state has harder standards for privates. You will also have 2 case workers, one from your agency, and one for the child.

I hope that kind of answered your question (?)
