Unhappy PRIDE classes ONLY during the week?

I'm really upset right now. Spoke to the adoption agency who works with CPS and they told my husband and I that we would have to come to Dallas (We live in east texas and are 2 hours away from big d) and take the PRIDE classes there every Tuesday (And I work full time Monday through Friday). They said that they do not offer it at any other time.

Are there any agencies that are a little more flexible, or is that it? If we want to adopt, I have to find a way to get out of work every Tuesday for half a day, so we can spend two hours driving to dallas, two hours in the class and two hours driving home?

Please someone tell me this is not the only way?

I would look at other agencies or I'd look into the pride classes perhaps offered in your own county through a local CPS office. You can still work with your agency but take the classes another way.

I'd talk to Suzberg if you get the chance. Or Momraine...both have adopted from Texas foster care so would know details or other possibilities.

Private agency

We went with a private agency. Where we live (near Austin) there are lots of choices, and every agency is different. When we went through the state for Pride classes it took 2 months. Our private agency did once a week and a full Saturday - it only took a month. I'd look around for options.

hoping to finalize this month on dd C (12 yr)
and eventually will adopt her brother ds D (14 yr)

Keep looking around at different agencies. We did Full Saturday classes too. I'm sure you will find one that fits your work better.

I would check around to other agencies. It may be that agency just doesn't have an office in East Texas. Another might. And if they don't, then I'd look into being licensed directly with CPS and do the training through them. They will definitely have training in East Texas!

I live in Dallas and they gave us a choice of Sats too. It was 5 sats all day. I would call them back and see if that is still available. It might have filled up really fast..maybe you can go on the next rotation?

Have you looked into agencies in Dallas that offer foster to adopt? Buckner is one I know of off the top of my head. PM me if you want info.

I'm in East Texas as well (Tyler actually), but went through an agency rather than the state. Our classes were held on Tuesday and Thursday nights (6pm to 9pm) for a little over a month. Feel free to PM me if you want more information about this agency.

There are several agencies in the Longview Tyler area that offer pride classes. They do them mostly at night. CPS also holds classes.

Most agencies do NOT require that you take pride directly from them.

PM me for more info on pride in east texas.

Buckner is the agency I am talking about. They told us they only offer those classes on Tuesday, from 8-10.

Our classes were with that agency and they were on Tuesday nights, 6-9. Are you sure they meant days? It's a very small office and the staff does all kinds of double duty.
