Hello!

I am licensed, and looking eagerly forward to having a foster/adopt placement.

Problem - I am fairly new to DFW and only know my employees. My parents live in Corpus and my brothers live in other states.

I would dearly love to make contact with other foster/adopt families, particularly in the Fort Worth area to begin developing a support system. IE - be able to exchange information, emotional support, ocassional child care, etc.

I am a single woman, so am nervous about not having back-up close at hand and do not want to short my child(ren) of anything they may need. There is a good chance that I will have AA children placed with me, and am expecially concerned about providing plenty of connections with their heritage (I am CC) and culture.

Some questions that hover around me? A good church, how to care for AA hair (I assume not wash-n-wear like my own limp mop ), etc.

I was just thinking about posting something like this myself. I have been looking most of the morning on the internet trying to find some kind of Foster Parent support group and I have come up empty handed. We are foster/adopt in Brazoria County (south of Houston). Can anyone help?

Hello!! My agency has a "shades of love" group but is open to everyone involved in transracial adoption. We are talking about setting up play groups, etc and we would love to have you join! Feel free to PM me. I live in Arlington, and adopted privately my AA prince, Cooper.

I know I'm not in Fort Worth, but I'm not really that far away. DH and I were licensed to Foster/Adopt back in November and have had our wonderful little L with us for a little over a month now. He's an adoptive placement and we can't wait to get to October/November when the adoption will be finalized. We are maintaining our foster license for now and will reevaluate after L's finalization as to whether or not we want to continue.
