After you have completed your homestudy how long did it take the agency to complete your license? Also what is the process for deciding who gets licensed for foster to adopt?

When we did ours, our completed homestudy was submitted sometime at the end of July, beginning of August. The committee only met once a month, which was some time in August. Our license is dated Aug. 31 and we were notified Sept. 15.
As for foster-to-adopt, you become licensed to foster and go from there. Like us, we wanted to straight adopt, but hadn't been married long enough. So, we decided to foster to adopt, with as low a risk as possible. Once we had our license, most of the kids that we sent our homestudy out to were actually straight adoption (we only had a few more months to wait until we'd have been "legal" in the length of time to be married). It's not like there is a list of kids that are foster-to-adopt, like there is to straight adopt. Even though we knew we wanted to adopt, and the sib group we took had already had TPR, we were still their foster parents for almost a year before the adoption placement committee met. The good thing was that since they had already been in our home for almost a year, we didn't have to wait the 6 months to finalize. Hope that helps.

I think it depends on the agency and their workload. When we FINALLY got our home study done, we were approved that week. Our home study was on Monday and on Friday they notified that we had been approved to adopt.
We wanted to go the straight adopt route, so that is all we are licensed for. Not sure how that part works.... sorry!!!!

I'm not sure how long it takes but I should know soon. We had our third visit from the homestudy worker today. The only reason she had to come back this time was because the committee said that they wanted to know more from our boys. She said that she will be sending the report to them on Monday and that they will let us know what they decide. I will let everyone know as soon as I know. I can't wait for this part to be over.
