Has anyone had to go through this yet? I just found out that since my house was verified on October 3rd that I now have to wait to have a child placed because anyone verified after October 1st now has to go through a FBI background check and be fingerprinted for the new Adam Walsh Child Protection Act of 2006, which if you go online and read the act is really great. I am just sad that it will now be an additional 5 weeks before I can be put up for any foster to adopt children. I just transferred from Austin to Houston and had to start the process over again.

We are in the process of being licensed and are going through the same thing. I was told though, that the faster you can get in to do the fingerprinting, the faster the results will come back (before they get swamped with applicants).
It is totally a bummer! We were going to be done with all our classes by 11/4 and that just threw another delay into our licensing. But.... I have to remind myself that if it saves one child, then it is worth it. I just wish the process wouldn't be sooooooo long, I know our child is out there somewhere waiting for us! |

Ditto.... :-)
Hi... I'm Kara... My husband and I have been certified since April, but have recently transfered agencies within our area (Beaumont, Texas) so we now have to do the fingerprints, too... We think it's a GREAT thing, but bummed about the wait.... We were told that the Identex (sp?) office was supposed to be really quick so we have an appt with them this Tues... but to the tune of $49.95 each.... We'll see... Are you using them in your area? Good luck to you both! Lets try to keep in touch.... Journee... I'm fairly close to you (about 2 hrs away)! ...Kara

Background checks
I did use them, actually I went there today to have it done and it only took about 10 minutes tops. I think the law is great, just sad about the delay, thought everything was done and then was told about this. Where are you located at? I am actually in Katy.

We went through FBI checks and it didn't take 5 weeks, so perhaps it won't for you guys either!
![]() Welcome to the "newbees"! It's nice to have some more people posting on this site. We've yet to be able to get to a support meeting as they always fall on the day we have religion classes. So, this is my support group.Anything I can help with, just let me know! I've been around the system for over 2 years now and though I don't know everything, I can at least relate. Take care!

Well I was told it would take 3-5 weeks to get the new FBI fingerprint background check in...but it took less than a week. I am so excited!! I have completed all the classes, homestudy and fire inspection..so now it is just the waiting game.
