Family Group Conference???

There is going to be a Family Group Conference for my FS and his 2 siblings who are at other homes. Apparently this is a new program that is offered to birthparents in order to gain support for them and be involved in the process of putting a plan together for them and their children. Also, they get family members to come and show support and I believe provide any possible kinship placements. Has anyone been to one of these? I just found out today that the conference is tomorrow and is 3 - 4 hours long. So, most likely I will not be able to go as it is also about 1 hour drive from here and I'd have to find childcare, etc. I just wanted to see if anyone has been to one and what your opinion of it is. I would love to be there because I like to get information first hand like that as opposed to waiting to find out from cw, CASA or our agency what's going on.

Thanks for any information you may have!

What part of the state are you in? I've heard that the "new system" is being tested/rolled out in the San Antonio area - Maybe this Family Group Conference is part of that??? Just a guess though.

We're considering getting back into Foster Care, just not sure if we are ready to deal with the system again...

We are in North Texas, but they did say it was a fairly new program and that a lot of foster parents were not aware of it yet. I haven't heard yet how it went yesterday. I'm not really expecting to until I ask about it though. My fs has a family visit tomorrow so I'm planning to ask the cw then.

I attended one and I too got my letter the day before the meeting. However I was able to go. I like to go to every meeting or hearing I can possible make so I can get the information first hand.

It went very well and I think it helped the Bio Family to meet me and know that their baby was in loving hands.
