Emergency Shelter Questions

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum.
My wife and myself have started looking into Foster Care in Texas. Specifically Houston Texas.

We we considering Doing emergency shelter.
Do any one know the specifics and requirement for emergency shelter.

One of my main questions is do you need to have a facility
or can you make rooms available in your home for emergency shelter.

Thanks of Any feedback
Kevin

I don't have any answers for you, however, I had some experience with Hope Cottage and you can go online at hopecottage.com, they may have some information on becoming a foster parent.

You still have to be a licensed foster home, so you'll have to go through PRIDE classes (30 hours) and all the paperwork and checks and stuff.

As far as the home, when you get your homestudy done, it will come back with what the max is for you and your home.

Then, when they call with a placement, then you let them know how many spots you have available.

I live in Houston, and there are quite a few agencies around here. My advice is to go check them out and see which agency feels best for you and your family (you can also go through CPS, but with the law changes, you might want to go with an agency since you'll end up there eventually anyways).

Good luck and welcome to the forum!
