Talking child care subsidy for foster children in Texas

We got the call Thurs. and have 2 precious new little ones!
I have a question for foster parents in Texas though. Since we have a sibling group, can we get child care subsidy for 1 of them? Does anyone know what the requirements are? We now have 3 children in the house under 5, so having one of them in daycare would calm things down and allow us to have a "time out" once in a while.

Thanks,

Missyfan

I wish I knew the answer to that one Missyfan! Our agency won't place under school age in a family that needs day care for them. So, I just don't know.

If you're with an agency, I would ask them. If not, I would ask the CPS worker that placed them. Our CPS worker was much more informed on somethings than our agency worker.

She knew about clothing allowances (her county is different from our local), camp money, activity reimbursements and all that. So, ask. What's the worst thing they can say...sorry, no?

If they do, ask about respite care (baby sitters with some training). What we did was talk to Grandma while we were going through classes and got her trained to be a part-time caretaker for us, with our agency. So, when we needed a break, she would just come over and watch them.

Wish I had a better answer for you. Hang it there! Congrats on the placement! Welcome to the "nut" house! It's a great place! I wouldn't trade it for a "normal" house any day! ....well, ok, perhaps once in a while!

Well, we were told that the children would be with us for 6 months. Expect the unexpected! They were here for less than 4 days! They went back home to their parents after a court hearing today. We were shocked! We are now waiting again, but do not expect another placement until after the holidays.

Oh! Missy! I'm soooo sorry! Hang in there!

I read in C's file where she was returned the 1st time. The cw'r at that time actually wrote, in the file, "what was this judge thinking!" and I think she even called him and idiot! She wasn't even working her plan.

Well, I'll pray that those bio's get their act together and do what it takes to keep those little ones you had safe. I've seen a few bio parents around our agency (as well as school), and some of them actually do work their plan.

Take care!

We have 2 one foster and one that we have adopted. We were told in our training that the only way we could get child care subsity was if both foster parents worked full-time. Which is what we both do, so we qualify for that assistance.

I hope this helps.

I know in my area, CPS doesn't usually give childcare assistance unless both parents work, but if you have documentation that one of the children needs to work on socializing with other you can maybe get part time childcare. Also I know another foster family that got full time childcare for their fd, who was two, when they took in a newborn who ended up having alot of medical problems. They needed the childcare b/c the foster mom was having to go to alot of doctor appointments for the other child. Hope this help.
