Thanks to everyone who responded to my "am I crazy post".
Here's where I am still confused. My understanding is that if you want a caucasian newborn that is either healthy or drug exposed straight out of the hospital that it's better to go straight through CPS because they get info on these babies and call their list of families first. Then, if they can't find a home for these babies, they move on to private agencies. My question then is would it really make sense for me to go through a private agency if I am interested in a caucasian newborn straight out of the hospital? Would love to hear everyone's take on this. Over the last few weeks, although I would still consider a sib group under 4, I have decided that I REALLY would like to have a newborn. Drug exposure is not a concern to me (it is, but you know what I mean) due to my daughters having bipolar and being FAS. I've sort of "been there, done that". Also, does anyone have any idea what the chances are of getting a newborn straight out of the hospital that fits the characteristics that I am looking for? |

Getting newborns happens frequently. Whether they end up adoptable is the question. The 5 I've had all went to family members. But I do know of many people that have adopted 'healthy caucasian' babies through CPS. I've never heard of a healthy newborn (of any race) going to a private agency because of a lack of CPS homes to take he/she. The private agencies in our area get older, harder to place children or ones with serious medical needs. Babies are easy to place (I've been waiting 9 months to get a little girl and I'm not that picky about race) so I can't think of any reason the state would choose to spend more money (because it does cost them more to place through a private agency) rather than place in one of their own homes.
I would call CPS in your area and ask them if they have EVER placed a child with that description with a private agency, I would bet they say no.
