Question new to foster process

My wife and I have been trying to get pregnant for about six years. We had told ourselves that after this past year we would move adoption. We feel that it is our calling to foster to adopt. What are the chances of actualy getting a new born to 2 year old and adopting the child. I know in Texas you must give a range of 0-5 years old, however since we have started this process we are finding out that there are so many newborns that need familys. We go to the pride meeting on Tues 5-25-04 and I am sure they will answer all of our questions. We are just so excited about they journey we are about to take.

Hi Brad&Devin,
I just went to an info meeting over the weekend. From what I gathered, they need (in my area at least - region 7, Austin) foster families for 0-5, younger children, and adoptive families for older children, special needs children and sibling groups.
I wish you the very best, and hope that you are blessed with "your" child quickly.

Did you get the information you were looking for at the meeting? In our area you can specify newborn or 0-3 or whatever, I've never heard of them only allowing you to specify 0-5. And of course you can always say no when they call with a child if you think the age is too high. Yes it can be 'easy' to adopt an infant in Texas but you also take the risk of loving an infant for months and have them return to their families. It may take a few tries before one comes available for adoption. The twins we have now were foster/adopt at placement but there is a possibility that a family member will be their final home. You never know even if the cw sounds possitive that the placement will be adoption. Family sometimes comes out of the woodwork at the last minute. Good luck.
