Question questions

We are getting two boys who we will be adopting. However, from my understanding they will be considered "foster" for the initial six months. During this time, will we be receiving the adoption subsidy?
Also, are we eligible for any things such as carseats or WIC? What about medical coverage such as Medicaid while they are still in foster status?
I'm in Texas so if anyone has info regarding the above questions with specific info for Texas, I'd like to hear it.
Thanks!

Are you adopting them through the state or through an agency? If you are adopting them through the state you should be entitled to all of the same services that you were receiving before. I believe that is true. We did not do fostering for the state we did it for a private agency. Hope this helps.

We are adopting through the state. The boys have been in foster care for the past year and the TPR was done in October so they are available for adoption. The family they are with is foster only so we are going to adopt the boys. Since we have not been fostering them and this is our first placement, we weren't sure how the whole thing worked. I've been asking question after question of our caseworker and hate to keep bothering her with more!
Thanks for your info. I appreciate it.

Congratulations!

We're in Texas, fostering-to-adopt through Depelchin. Our baby has been with us since the last week of October (by the way, Thanksgiving was wonderful and Christmas is going to be awesome!). TPR is pending and should be completed within the next few months. We do receive a subsidy and our FS receives medicaid and WIC until his adoption is final. It is my understanding that until the child or children have lived with you for 6 months, you cannot finalize the adoption. Hope this is helpful info.... We're new to this too, so if you have other questions, maybe we can muddle through it together.
