We live in North TX. My husband has been there for my daughter since birth, and wants to adopt her. I don't even know where to start. The biological father is not in the picture, never has been, and isn't on the birth certificate. To be quite honest, don't know who he is. We really want to get this done before she has to start school with a different last name from mommy and daddy. I really don't want to have to pay a lawyer to do something that we can do ourselves. If anyone has any information that could help us out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Since you don't know who the biological father is, its going to take additional steps…publication most likely.

What county are you in? If you are in a smaller county…the clerk may be willing to walk you thru filling out the paperwork you need and getting it done…if you’re in one of the larger counties, then that’s not an option.

Your best bet is to call the Circuit Clerk and ask what papers you will need…and then ask where the law library is. Go to the law library and make copies of the papers you need and file them…its pretty simple…the only hang up might be the unknown father.
