Question Could use advice and help!

Hello!

My husband and I have been talking about adoption. We have 3 biological kiddos ourself (ages 6, 5 and 2.5). We have been talking about adopting an older child. I was looking through the profiles of the children out there to adpot and there is an 11 year old that caught our eye and we have been talking about her ever since.

I am so brand new to this, I don't know where to begin. Can anyone here give me a starting point? My head is swimming from reading the site. Anyone know the process for adopting a older child? I'm in the D/FW area and would love any and ALL info y'all can give me. Does anyone here have any pointers or suggestions of how my husband and I would get the ball rolling?

TIA!!

~ A

Buckner

Hi, we adopted our second child through Buckner Baptist Benevolences. You do not have to be Baptist to work with them, but you do have to be an active member of a church. I know that they work with the state. We plan on adopting through them again, I can't say enough about the personal relationship they develop with you and are willing to work with you even after the adoption is finalized.

Hi Tia! My husband and I are also in the DFW area and are adopting through Arrow Project. (CPS kids, but we did our training and home study through Arrow). Their training program was great (and quick -- we started in July and had an approved homestudy mid-September). We are looking at an 11 year old boy right now. just fyi -- the profiles on the TARE website do not give all of the info about the kids -- you'll find out QUITE a bit more after you're approved. Also -- be prepared to wait!!! I'm still not sure what exactly we're waiting on, but that seems to be the process Go to the Information meetings CPS has-- they'll give you a list of other private agencies in the area and you can pick any of them.
Good luck!!!!!!!
