Vital Statistics Births... I got em..

Ok well many people may or may not know that the
Texas Vital statistics web page housed birth records
from 1950 - at least 1995 well they decided to yank them
I guess because someone found their birth parents or
birthparents found their kids... so anyway.. I figured out
where they were still hidden away one some geneology
web sites.. such as here

Use the google search engine and go to rootsweb

These are in self extracting archives such as Birth69.exe which will extract a text named for example BIRTH69.txt now what these contain is the births of every child in the State of Texas for that year.

The listings are in this format:

LastName FirstName MiddleName DOB Sex CountyOfBirth

Its pretty easy to figure out... Now the people I would guess that
this would be most useful for is birth parents or siblings searching for a brother/sister halfbrother/halfsister.
If you know the county and birthdate you should really be able to narrow down your search.
If anyone cant get their hands on these files for some reason and would like to host a site where these can be stored for the future let me know soon and I will send them to you. Please dont be lazy and email me for the files because you dont want to download them from the site yourself I dont need the junk mail : )
But if you cant get to them feel free to email me.

Look here and go through FTP Directory on the state your interested in to find the records. It may take a little looking around but they are there. Posted this because I got several
emails asking about birth records for other states.

Russ Thompson, thank you so much for posting this link (Texas Vital Statistics). I went to the site on Friday, and today (Tuesday) I posted a letter to my son. The only information I had about him was his first and middle name, his date of birth, and the county he was born in (and adopted out of). Using this website, I was able to track down his LAST name... which is, of course, also the last name of his adoptive parents. From there, it was a fairly simple matter to track them down and get an address. Like I said, I posted a letter today. Whether my son responds or not, at least the waiting and wondering is over. I hope others who are searching realize what a valuable research tool this website is. The information is THERE. All you have to do is go find it! Thanks again, Russ. Sincerely, Sharon

help with birth records

I downloaded the birth records from my county in texas and went throught them and found my adopted name and D.O.B. Does that mean I'm not there anywhere else? There are about 25 females born on that day in that county. Or wa I registered with my adopted name?

Can someone tell me how that works.

Kelly. Yes, as far as I know, this is more of a resource for birthmothers (who don't KNOW their child's adopted name and need to find that out) than for adoptees. The name listed on the Birth Index is the child's adopted name. I'm not sure where an adoptee could find her birthparents' name, but I'm sure there is a way and I will try to find out for you. Maybe other adoptees who belong to this forum can give you some input, advice, etc. Best of luck. Sincerely, ~Sharon

wondering

I am wondering where there may be a place to search with the adopted name, and "translate" it into the birth name, given my the birthmother.

Is there anything a birth certificate number can do for a search besides show the adopted names?

Thumbs up Texas Vital Statistic Index

Just wanted to post again on this thread, in order to keep it current and prevent it from becoming archived. The Vital Statistic Index is an extremely valuable resource for Texas birthmothers searching for their children. Any birthmother who placed her child in Texas needs to start here, and look at this website first.
One tip for quicker searching:
When you get to the index for the proper year and county, press the "f" and the "Ctrl" keys together, and a search box will pop up. Type in the date of birth you are looking for and click on "Search Next". You will automatically be taken to the listings for that particular date of birth. It makes searching go MUCH faster, because the indexes for some of those counties like Harris and Tarrant are ten or eleven pages long.
Best of luck to you all.
~ Sharon

re: Ballet-slippers

As far as I know, only Texas has an on-line birth index. In many other states, the birth index is available on micro-film in the public library. I'll look into this further and PM you about which states have birth records available to the public.
