Some time back I posted a question I had for my bmom - did she think of me on my birthday. Wellllll, this past Friday I got to ask her that myself! A very kind search angel took my info and w/in a matter of hours I was speaking w/my mom for the first time ever. It was sort of a deer in headlights kind of thing - she had always been an abstract to me, but there I was, talking to her on the phone. And yes, she said, what mother does NOT think of her child on the child's birthday, even if she does not know where the child is. The second most important thing to me is that I got to thank her for making what had to be the hardest decision she ever made. Told her that I was grateful that she selflessly gave me the chance at a wonderful life. She said she was glad to know I was loved and well cared for.

We seemed to both be happy with the way our lives are. She is aware that I am very close to my "real" parents - the people who loved and raised me - and did not assume the role of a parent. The people in her life do not know about me, and that's OK w/me. I was born mid-50s, and she was very, very, VERY young. Those were some pretty uptight times. I respect her decision and will honor it, as she seems to honor the relationship I have with my family.

If I never meet her in person, it will be OK. My question was answered, and my thanks were given.

that's wonderful, I guess if my daughter had that question, hopefully I answered it, I just found her on the 10th and her birthday is today, so I sent her a letter, telling her who I was and a birthday card to go with it. Hope it has a positive impact and not a negative one .

First thing, congartulations! I'm truly happy to read that many of our posting are very similar...it gets rid of the feeling that "we're the only one" going through this particular emotion. Joining this site was the best thing I've ever done for myself...much thanks to those of you who make it work.
