Smile Poem for my son's birthday...

Season's greetings to all Birthparents! I placed my son for adoption in December 1989. The adoption was closed although I did receive pictures and letters from the attorney for the first few years. I do something special to celebrate my son's birthday every year. Last year I wrote a poem, which I sang at a coffee-house open-mike on the evening of his birthday. Since I do not write music I borrowed the music from Silent Night. Here is my poem...

Another Child is Born

spoken: Every December
As I remember the birth of my Savior
I remember
Another Birth
Another Child
Another cold December night...

sung to the tune of Silent Night:
Silent Night, lonely night
A son was born, his mother's delight.
Silently weeping, mother and child
Embracing her infant, so tender and mild
Praying for Heavenly peace,
Praying for Heavenly peace.

Silent Night, sleepless night
Few were there, to ease her plight;
Lifted in prayer, she remained strong
Tho' haunted by doubting, all the night long.
He was her joy for one night
(He's still the joy of her life!)

Silent Night, moonlit night
One last kiss, most precious sight!
Tears streaming down upon her grieving face
Into their arms, he finally was placed.
The gift of a child she did give;
Lord, bless him as long as he lives!

I am new here so please forgive me if I am doing this wrong! I thought my message was too long for one post so this is continued from the first post.

Since I wrote that poem for my son last year, I wanted to share some *GOOD NEWS* for 2004!

Since my adoption was semi-closed, I was prepared to wait until my son is at least 18 yrs. old before I could hope for any contact. I was BLESSED to discover this year that he and his a-parents now want to have direct contact with me, with the hopes of setting up a reunion in the next few months. AND they want me and the birthfather to have an active role in their lives. How wonderful is that?

Today is the first day I will be able to wish my son Happy Birthday in person!!! Well, sort of. I am calling him since we have not arranged that elusive first meeting yet. I get goosebumps every time I think about it!

I just wanted to share my good news to encourage others who may still be silently grieving or wondering about a precious son or daughter relinquished for adoption. I know all-too-well that in life there is not always a happy ending, but I pray with each of you for healing and peace and JOY! Thank you for letting me share and have a blessed holiday season!

Smile Thanks Brad!

Thank you for the well-wishes, Brad! I did call my son to wish him a Happy Birthday tonight (just got off the phone!) and he told me that when they told him to make a wish and blow out his birthday candles, he wished to meet and spend more time with me and with his birthfather and his family. So sweet!

BTW, my son already met his birthfather completely by chance just a few weeks ago! The birthfather is now married and has 4 little girls, and my son was thrilled to learn he has sisters! He has met them all! I'm a little jealous that he met them first and I'm still waiting, but I know my special day is soon to come!

Take care!

Hi,
I am working on an adoption book. It's an anthology of birthday writings from birthparents to the their children. I want to trace the healing process, the ups and downs over the years, and highlight the patterns in things that birthparents feel throughout the years. I would love to include this short piece if you would like to contribute to it. But, if this is a private feeling that you wanted to express, I can certainly understand that too. If interested, please email me at alyceahuebsch@hotmail.com.
Thanks,
Alycea
