OREGON-training on-OPENNESS in adoption
Oregon Adoptive Parent's Network (OAPN) is hosting an ORPARC training durring our support group time this month. If you would like more information, please visit www.oapn.happymomanna.com for more information on OAPN and support in OR.
------------------ Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center ~Presents~ Openness Adopted children, like all children, need to know who they are and where they came from. At the same time it is the role of adoptive parents to provide safety and protection to their children, especially when they may have had significantly traumatic pasts. This training will offer ways to balance a child’s need to connect with their birth family and biological roots. The trainer will review things to consider when making these lifelong decisions for (and with) your child as well as strategies to help make openness work. The training will offer a summary of common challenges and roadblocks with openness in child welfare adoptions. The goal is that participants will gain tools and ideas to provide a connection to their child’s roots that work with their family system. Presenter: Kim Lombardi, LCSW, ORPARC Family Support Specialist Prior to joining ORPARC, Kim was employed for the Department of Human Services Child Welfare as both permanency caseworker and as a consultant educator & trainer (CET). When: Thursday, April 25, 2006 Time: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Where: City Bible Church (217 Campus Address) 11765 SW Pacific Highway Tigard, Oregon 97223 PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED Register at 1-800-764-8367, 503-241-0799, or e-mail orparc@nwresource.org Training is free of charge to state Adoptive, Foster, and Assisted Guardianship Families, and DHS/SNAC Adoption Professionals. Childcare and Travel Expense reimbursement as funds allow; request upon registration. This event is being held in accessible location. Auxiliary aids and alternative forms of written materials are available to persons with disabilities. Please request these services at least two weeks in advance.
